Virgin Gorda Baths & Snorkel

Cruise to The Baths and swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. Snorkel and discover the abundant marine life, relax on the beautiful white-sand beach or just rest on the sun deck of the boat. Listen to Caribbean music. Note: Participants must be at least 5 years of age and able to swim 50-100 yards from the boat to the beach as the boat does not pull up to land at Virgin Gorda. The footpath to The Baths is rough, consists of uneven terrain and goes through small spaces. Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. Alternate destinations may be used if sea conditions prohibit a stop at the Baths.

A Fun Day
I think taking a catamaran and swimming ashore to the baths is much more fun than taking a bus. The catamaran anchors about 300 yards from the beach, which is a bit far but not too bad. The water has a good current and there is some effort to get to shore.
After we all arrived on shore we were taken through the baths and walked and crawled around the boulders and caves. After that we ended up on another beach where we snorkeled and eventually ended up back at the catamaran.
On the way back there was music and dancing. A great way to end our trip.

I cannot recommend this shore excursion as I've been on many snorkeling trips and this one fails for one simple reason. After anchoring offshore from the Baths you are asked to snorkel to shore (which is not a big deal as its an easy swim and they encourage you to go slowly). Once there, you then walk through the Baths for 20 minutes until you reach another beach where you can again snorkel, sit on the beach, or climb the rocks. You spend close to 2 hours off the boat but, since you have to snorkel to the beach, do NOT have anything but your swimsuit and snorkel gear. This means, no camera (unless you have a waterproof), no sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, food, water, money, etc., for too long. Other excursions we've been on will either bring the boat to shore or allow for some personal belongings to be brought to shore (even if it's by dinghy from the boat). Thus, we managed to get sunburned, miss great pictures of the rocks of the Baths, miss pictures of a great rainbow over the nearby islands, and arrived back on the catamaran parched. The crew is great, the ride is OK (quite choppy on the way out) and they give you water and a rum punch once back on the boat, as well as explain the history of the nearby islands. If they fix this flaw, go. If not, take the tour that arrives at the Baths by bus and bring your own snorkel gear.
