Jeep® Safari & Beach

Explore some of the best kept secrets in St. Thomas on your own Jeep. The knowledgeable and experienced guide will lead the Jeep convoy indicating points of interest over a hand held radio. The tour starts off along the scenic south side shore line making its way to one of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in the Virgin Islands. You will have 1 1/2 hours to relax in the shallow crystal waters before continuing on to Mountain Top, where spectacular photo opportunities await. From there enjoy the lush and lively winding roads of the North side before slowly winding your way down the Mountain and back to your ship Note: Participants must be at least 25 years of age to drive and provide a valid drivers license. Bring a towel, cover-up and sunscreen. Vehicle accommodates four 4 guests per jeep.

Not well planned
This was a very unorganized event. They had a set number of jeeps reserved and ready for the excursion. The only problem with that; there was no consideration of how the total number of people would be distributed in those jeeps. They loaded them by groups of four, then groups of three, and groups of two. My son, his wife, and two daughters were in one jeep. When it came to groups of two, there were not enough jeeps left even with people doubling up. There were four people left with no jeeps. When the other couple saw that we were part of a family they said they would stay behind. We were extremely grateful to them. They put us in another jeep that already had a couple in it. The bottom line here is you cannot reserve jeeps to a total number of people and then distribute them to groups of three, and two. I can't believe that this would have been the first time they would have this problem. They offered to get our money back etc. but that's not what we wanted. We came on a vacation with our family and choice this excursion as a family. The tour guide of this event was extremely accommodating once we had a place to sit. He was very nice and took us on a wonderful excursion. The excursion was great in itself. It was a shame it had that shadow over it of not being well planned. We would definitely do this again but only if we had a group of four!

Great Ride
This was a nice way to see the island, seen some beautiful views, had to take pictures quickly, didnt give us much time. They will take you to a place to purchase things, but be aware they don't take discover, which we had, was disappointing. The beach we went to was very nice and no one bothered you to buy things constantly. It was also fun driving on the left hand side of the road, be careful :) Couldn't really understand the guide all the time, but that was alright, we just enjoyed the ride.

Don't be fooled
Overall this was a good tour, our only gripe is that the description says you get your own Jeep...this is NOT the case. Each jeep is loaded with 4 passengers whether they are with your party or not. So we were not in our OWN jeep...we were with two other passengers (strangers to us). We discussed this with the gal who was leading us to the Jeeps and she was VERY defensive and guaranteed it did not say we got our OWN Jeep. So afterward we discussed the wording with the excursion desk on the boat and they were very kind...and have struggled with wording. They accomodated us and were kind about our concerns. There is also no 4 wheeling whatsoever done, just driving on the paved roads (a few have potholes if that counts as 4 wheeling).
Otherswise, Garfield was a FANTASTIC tour guide (lead driver) and worked hard to keep us all together. We had walkie talkies and he told us all about the culture and history of the island along with some of the mansions and their owners. We stopped at a beach that was part of a resort but was nice. We weren't bothered too much by vendors. You can rent a chair and umbrella on that beach and it was moderately busy. This tour gave you a good look at the island and we were able to see some awesome views from the hills of the ocean! What a beautiful island. I would recommend this excursion, just know what you are booking.

Lots of fun
Nice drive around the island and to the top of the mountain. Great views! Some turns are very sharp and steep, but you are in a caravan so you will not get lost. The stop at the beach is relaxing, but a little too short. A little rocky. Rent chairs for $7 each. Snack bar and rest rooms close.

Fun Trip But Some Concerns
The ad states "own Jeep" which is not true. The Jeeps hold four passengers and four people are put in each Jeep. There were 18 people and 5 Jeeps. You must rotate drivers. The tour itself was fun. We did not spend 1 1/2 hours at the beach. We did go to Brewer's Beach which was wonderful. Ed was our tour guide and had to deal with a difficult tourist who demanded his own Jeep for his family of three (2adults &1 small child). Ed was very courtious and tried to accomodate him. This meant that another family was unable to drive the Jeep. Overall the tour was okay.
