Golden Glassblowing Experience

This unique hands-on 'Hot Shop' adventure is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to blow your own glass art in the Last Frontier - complete with real gold in your finished piece! Escape to the tranquility of beautiful Jewell Gardens for a very personal and fun filled glassblowing workshop. You'll keep the glass you make, and we'll even take care of the shipping after it cools to anywhere in the world. From the moment you leave the pier you'll know you're on a very different kind of excursion - this experience has been carefully designed not to be a 'tour' in the traditional sense, but rather an exciting learning adventure on a very personal scale. Upon arrival at Jewell Gardens, your guide will give you a private orientation to this spectacular Northern Show Garden and our Hot Shop where you'll learn the ancient art of working with molten glass to create your ultimate Alaskan memento - an ornament for hanging in a window or on your Christmas tree - or use it as a float in your garden pond.   You are the designer, before blowing your piece you'll choose your color combinations and whether you want stripes, swirls or spots. In the spirit of the Gold Rush, we even offer you the chance to incorporate 24K gold for spectacular effect. Following the Hot Shop studio experience you'll be treated to a delicious tea service, lunch, or light dinner (depending on the time of day) before returning to your ship. This exciting new program is limited to just ten participants so reserve your space now. Note: Participants must be at least 7 years of age. Finished pieces can be shipped from the Hot Shop. Participants are advised to wear cotton or other natural fiber clothes if possible - protective lab coats, safety glasses, and individual sterilized mouthpieces are provided.

Something different
I should probably start by saying that I have a personal fascination with glass art, so this was a must for me. Obviously it's not for everyone, but I would highly recommend it for those with a similar enthusiasm for glass as myself. Even if glassblowing is not a big interest, it is a great little excursion for those looking to do something different. It's a short 10-15 minute ride to the outdoor hot-shop. There is a garden with tons of work available to see/purchase--more available to purchase in the giftshop. You pick the colors, design, and whether you want it as a hanging ornament or with a flat bottom for a paper weight. You help make your own glass globe and then enjoy a drink and meal (bread, salad, soup, quiche, dessert). I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. Dave & Nick were great!

Better than expected
Much more interactive than we expected. Our group was the last of the season, and was smaller than normal. After we had each made our own ornaments, we were afforded the opportunity to watch, up close, as "our glass artist" made a decorative bowl.
As promised, our ornaments were waiting for us when we got back home. We'll always have a fond reminder of this trip when we see our ornaments hanging on our Christmas tree.
If you're fascinated with blown glass, this excursion is the one to take... a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Greatest ever
We did this excursion because it was unusual-and it was. We made the most beautiful glass ornaments, and learned a lot in the process about glass blowing. The gardens at this venue were beautiful and the blown glass flowers in the gardens were amazing. There was even a model railroad in the gardens. A light dinner was served which was very tasty.

So much fun!
If you are a glass freak like I am then this is the tour for you. You get to help make a glass ball that will be shipped to your house as a souvenir! Several designs to choose from and you can pick your own color combinations and if you want it to hang or sit on a shelf. They also have a beautiful garden that you get to check out and a great lunch.
