Atv Adventure (Driver Only)

Travel off-road on ATV 'quads' en route to discover the interior of the Samana Peninsula. At the tender pier, you'll board your transportation and be transferred to Ranch Gina where you'll receive a safety briefing and instructions on the operation of your ATV. Then, you're off, caravan style to discover the back-roads and areas of interest while your tour guide provides narration. Your first visit will be to a typical Dominican rural house and learn about the culture and way of life of the Dominican people. Continue to La Cascada Lulu for a photo stop. Your final stop will be a visit to El Valle Beach, a white-sand beach fringed with palm trees. Note: Participants must be at least 18 years of age, weigh no more than 250 lbs, in good health and provide a valid driver's license. All participants are required to sign a waiver. This tour is not recommended for pregnant women and people with neck or back injuries. Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. There is no swimming at Playa El Valle.

My wife and I did this excursion for the first time in June of 2008, and it was one of the highlights of our cruise. The country is quite poor, but it is maybe the most beautiful island we've ever been to (and we've been to 11 Caribbean islands). We went back to Samana in November of 2011, and we knew we had to do this excursion again (and this time we brought friends).
The ATVs are just feet from the entrance to the island, so there is basically no waiting. Once on your ATV, you travel through the sparsely developed countryside for a few miles. After a short time, you end up deep into Samana, traveling on a well-worn dirt road for miles. You will want to stop and take photos every 100 yards (although you can't... so riding as a 2nd passenger isn't a bad idea for photo opportunities), as the views are incredible. We saw all kinds of animals (cows, horses, pigs, cats, chickens, goats, dogs) as we traveled, and we even crossed through a couple of rivers/creeks along the way. You end up at El Valle Beach, which is incredibly beautiful (no swimming, though, as the waters are quite rough). Between the sand, the cliffs, the crashing waves, and the undeveloped purity of this place, you'll never want to leave. There are locals there who will open a pineapple or coconut and have you eating and drinking out of them with straws within seconds (w/ or w/out alcohol, $5). On your way back, you stop by a clearing where you can walk back 1/4 mile or so to a beautiful waterfall. If time permits, you can swim there, too.
This excursion is unbelievable... we've done it twice, and we can't wait to do it again when we go back to the DR.
