Atlantis Submarine & Lahaina On Your Own

Submerge yourself in the magnificent underwater world of Maui aboard an Atlantis Submarine. This once-in-a-lifetime journey is made aboard a 65-foot submarine. Upon check-in, you'll board a shuttle to the submarine dive site, located just two miles from Lahaina harbor. From December to April, you may find yourself escorted by whales! On your 45-minute submarine dive, you'll witness the watery world that surrounds you and see a variety of exotic tropical fish, coral gardens, and a sunken vessel. Note: Participants must be at least 3 feet in height and must be able to safely climb a nearly vertical seven-step ladder into and out of the submarine. Viewing of the Carthaginian may not be possible in adverse weather conditions.

This is a great excursion for those who do not snorkel or scuba dive. A shuttle takes the group to Lahaina where you get your submarine time. A boat takes the group out to where the submarine is boarded. Once out there you have to wait for the submarine to emerge, passengers disembark, then the group boards the submarine. Everyone has a good view inside. The submarine eventually goes all the way down to the bottom of the ocean. The entire excursion is narrated. We saw all kinds of fish, coral, plants, even a shark. The submarine spins 180 degrees so both sides can view things. This can cause dizziness. I noticed several people that appeared seasick either from the choppy ride out or the submarine movement. Afterward there is plenty of time to shop, have lunch, or sit under the Banyan tree until it is time to catch the shuttle back. Loved it!

Interesting Experience
The submarine experience was quite interesting. It is small, but I never felt claustrophobic. The fish and underwater shipwreck were quite a site to see. The bus trip to and from Lahaina was informative, and we saw a bunch of whales. The time spent in Lahaina was just enough for lunch and a stroll up and down Front Street to check out the shops. It was a well-rounded outing.

Fun adventure
We don't have children, but this would be a great excursion for families. We enjoyed the submarine ride. Since we're not big shoppers, we had more time in Lahaina than we needed, but we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and sat in the shade of the legendary banyon tree until the buses returned.

easy but fun
Trip in submarine was interesting - especially for non-scuba divers. Something you don't do every day and very educational. Not good for anyone with claustrophobia - sub was well lit and lots of air but still enclosed and goes deep. Walking Lahaina was fun - lunch at Cheeseburgers in Paradise was awesome! Don't miss the biggest banyon tree!
