This scenic journey takes you through upcountry Maui to the top of the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala. At the summit is a vast crater measuring seven-and-a-half miles long by two and-a-half miles wide. This dormant volcano last erupted in 1790 and imparts a sense of awesome power by virtue of its size alone. Haleakala Crater is a natural wonder and is the highest point on Maui. The views from the top at over 10,000 feet above sea level are magnificent. On a clear day, you'll even enjoy views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. From the rim, you'll be able to appreciate firsthand the unique beauty of this massive crater with its interesting mix of volcanic rock and plant life, some of which, like the silversword plant, is found only in Hawaii's volcanic craters.
Note: This tour is not recommended for guests with respiratory or heart problems. We recommend you bring a sweater as temperatures range between 40-65 degrees Fahrenheit at the crater's top. Online price is inclusive of the Pre-book and Save offer.

You're in Hawaii! The weather is nice & warm. You packed all your summer things. DON'T FORGET LONG PANTS & A SWEATSHIRT if you're planning to go here! The view is breathtaking. The climb is a winding road. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Enjoyed the trip - once we got above the clouds, the views were good, and the crater was beautiful. The driver was a bit annoying though - he drove fast (but safe) but obviously loved himself and came across very confident and a bit obnoxious.

The bus trip was a little long, but our tour guide was very entertaining for the whole trip. He knew a lot about the island, the history, and many fun facts about Maui. The crater was a spectacular sight, and we got lots of great pictures. We had better than average weather, but it was still a little cool at the top.
Overall, we had a great time. I would recommend this excursion.

The crater(they keep calling it a collapsed mountain top but who cares) was spectacular, perhaps the best view of the trip. Just a note for the less adventurous, the view from the top of the cinder cone isn't a lot better than that from the visitor center, so don't feel bad if you can't make the hike.

Chose to do this tour on one of our days on Maui. It was a windy/curvy trip to the top but well worth the drive! Its suggested to go on the sunrise trip as your view from the top his much clearer - you will see much more. We went on the morning trip and still had a great view - but the clouds were staring to form all around. When you get to the lookout at 10,000 feet there is a short trail you can take to go up a little further -- I highly suggest doing this short hike/walk! Even better views!

It is truly a great excursion. The sunrise was magnificent. It is also a great place to pop the question, which happened, to a round of applause. We even passed the home of Tom Selleck.
The bad thing is the path you get to the top, which you have to climb in the dark. It is also very rocky. If you get off the path, you could be fined up to $5000, as well as your tour operator, and the tour company. My partner has limited vision, and is legally blind. He had a VERY difficult time hiking to the top and back down, and cut his finger due to the jagged volcanic rock. Luckily, we had a night vision camera to guide us and some great people who gave us band aids and tissue to cover his wounds.
I would only recommend this excursion to those people who are able bodied individuals. If you, or you loved one has some form of disability, or is wheel chair bound, or even if you have children that need a stroller, this excursion might not work out for you. And if you do book this excursion, BRING a flashlight or something with night vision.
Would I do this again? Yes! Would my partner? No!

Henry was the tour guide. He knew his stuff and was funny at the same time. I never was physically at a crater before; what a view!! I liked this excursion because it was not all day long and our tour guide Henry made it great!

Comfortable ride up the volcano. Driver was very funny and informative. Stops twice on the way up the mountain, but does not really go all the way to the last stop at the top lookout location. They leave you off at a lower area that has a small trail to an overlook point where you can view part of the crater. It is a long walk up road to actually reach to top to get the really spectacular view!!
