Dolphin Encounter & Dunn's River Falls

Relax during your short drive to the world-famous Dunn's River Falls where you'll climb 600 feet of cool refreshing water as it cascades over natural limestone terraces. Guides are provided to assist you when ascending the rushing waters as it plunges directly into the pristine Caribbean Sea. After this invigorating experience you're transported to Dolphin Cove, where you are met by friendly hostesses and given a complimentary fruit drink. This unique cove surrounded by lush tropical jungle, is home to our beautiful family of bottlenose dolphins, exotic birds, snakes and iguanas. There you'll participate in a brief orientation and then enter the world of nature's most fascinating creatures; the Dolphins. Get to know these gentle creatures from a platform in shallow water and experience the emotion as you caress these beautiful animals; enjoy a splash and even a kiss or two. After enjoying this unique experience spend the rest of the day at Dolphin Cove and all that it has to offer. At the conclusion of your tour you'll have the option of being dropped-off at a local shopping plaza for shopping time at your leisure and then make your own way back to your ship. Note: Shuttle buses are available at 10-minute intervals to return you to your ship. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult. The Dunn's River Falls are the highlight of Jamaica and tend to be very congested. All guests participating in a tour that visits the falls should wear foot protection that can get wet. River socks are available for rent at the falls. The rocks at the falls are slippery. Climbing the falls is optional and at your own risk. Participants who do not wish to climb the falls may enjoy the small beach at the base. The walk to the beach is on a slope with many stairs, therefore participants should be in reasonably good health.

Great experience
Just returned from this cruise - Jan 2013.
My 5 year old really wanted to touch a dolphin so we chose this excursion as she was allowed to as long as she was with an adult.
We were the first boat in port that day so that made things even better. A bus took us to Dolphin's Cove and it was just opening up for the day. Our dolphin experience was not for an hour so we spent time watching the other people swim with sharks, explored the animals in the forested area (different animals in cages, a touch pool, etc), did some shopping, ate some snacks and then it was time!
The staff were extremely organized and so about 8 of us stood on a platform in the water. Our dolphin came over and we got many chances to touch it, and then were photographed kissing it and being kissed by it. Photos and video of the whole thing are available for purchase on site but are pricey.
When we were ready to leave (as each experience was at different times) there was a shuttle there to take you to the Falls. it was nice to time things out on our own schedule and spend as much or as little time as we wanted, as it turned out Dunn's Falls was not going to be something my 5 yr old would want to climb so we looked at it from platforms and watched the others people climb.
We got to skip the big line at the gate to the park because of being with an excursion - that was nice as it was really busy! It was beautiful but pricey - you required a locker rental if you had anything with you, plus you had to rent special shoes or buy them so probably about $20/person total once you were on site if you were to climb the falls.
leaving this park you have to walk through a bunch of vendors who are VERY aggressive and intimidating. Also, the parking lot is a madhouse and we had a lot of troubles finding our company that was providing our shuttle, to take us away because we hadn't receiving clear information on where they'd be so do clarify that.
We got dropped off at the "mall" and did some shopping and eating and then were walking distance to the ship.

beware
My husband and I were excited about the encounter with the dolphins. There was a long wait, a short encounter and then the handler asked for tips at the end (I don't think that was necessary as the cost of the adventure through NCL is double of what you would pay on your own). Dunn's River falls was beautiful, but BEWARE of the straw market that you have to walk through on the way out. The store owners are VERY pushy and intimidating. I wish I was made aware of this so I could be more prepared. (This was also through NCL)
