Rent One at Home Instead
This is literally a huge inflatable slide with a guy at the top holding a water hose. No different than the bouncy houses and and inflatable water slides you can rent to put in your own yard other than that it's larger. Our sons enjoyed it exactly six times. After that they were bored and were finished with it for the day. Considering the money that NCL pulls in, you'd think they could offer use of an inflatable water slide for free to the kids since there's hardly anything else for them to do at Great Stirrup Cay.

Loved it!
My son loved this! He didn't want to come off of this to go into the water, but we made him. He would have spent the whole day at GSC at this if we would have left him.

An OK Excursion
First of all, the Pre-book & Save price is the price already listed; the post-departure price is more expensive by the amount that is advertised as saved.
Secondly, I really don't get why it is called a "hippo" since it is just an inflatable slide with nothing that would cause me to think of a hippopotamus.
Finally, it is somewhat fun but far from being "the best thing ever". It might be worth buying for some, especially children, but is probably not for most.
What ended up being the case on May 28, 2013 was that the weather was especially rainy that afternoon, though intermittent power outages caused the hippo to deflate while I was on top about to slide down. Fortunately the excursions desk very kindly refunded this excursion as stateroom credit when I mentioned the mechanical error.

Hippo slide was fun!
My kids (10 and 7) LOVED the hippo slide. It rained heavily the day we were on the beach, and the slide was the highlight of their day. Younger children might be intimidated by the height of the slide. IT'S HUGE!

Great slide
With the height of this slide, one really builds a good amount of speed and distance sliding. It was a lot of fun. Very reasonable cost for all day. My granddaughter did get skin irritation on her back that was exposed so consider enough clothing (shirt and pants that you don't mind getting wet) to protect from that possibility.
