Blue Lagoon Island Beach Day

Start your day with a 40-minute scenic boat ride through historic Nassau Harbour on a catamaran towards Blue Lagoon Island. Enjoy this private island at your leisure. Swim on a pristine beach or just relax and lounge in a double hammock. Take part in sports activities such as volleyball, and beach soccer. You can also visit the Dolphin Encounter's facility and observe friendly Bahamian Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and sea lions in their all-natural habitat. Refresh yourself with a tropical drink and a complimentary lunch. Note: Participants ages 3 or younger receive free admission if accompanied in the program by a participating paying adult (parent or guardian at least 18 years of age). Premium non-motorized equipment such as aqua bikes, paddle boats, kayaks and guided snorkeling are available at an additional cost. Regular non-motorized equipment such as inner tubes, big boss noodles, and float mats are included. Wear your swimsuit, bring a towel and cash/credit cards for purchases at the facility. There is an additional fee of $15 per person for the inflatable aqua and bounce parks. Approximately 1/2 to 1 mile of walking on the pier is required. Return departures from Blue Lagoon Island optional at 2:00pm and 4:00pm. This tour is available for all ships except Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Sun.

Loved This
The only complaint I have about this excursion is that I wished it was longer. But we were only in port from 12-6:30 this day so that couldn't really be helped. The beach is a great way to get some alone time if you are in need of it after being on a boat with 3000 other people. There are serveral secluded areas on the beach so that you aren't on top of one another. The hammocks are great and I loved looking at the Sea Lions and Dolphins. I plan to do this excursion again if in the same port.

Avoid
This excursion was horrendous. We waited 40 minutes in the heat waiting to walk over to the boat over. When we got to the Island, there was barely any water in the lagoon. The deepest point went only up to my knees. The water smelled like sulfar or raw sewage. Disgusting.

Great for relaxation!
Blue Lagoon Island is a great excursion if you're looking to relax! The island stretches pretty far, and you can easily find a secluded spot right by the water. There were plenty of empty lounge chairs and hammocks available which was a pleasant surprise. The majority of lounge chairs are spread out on the sand surrounding the lagoon, which was very shallow but enjoyable. If you want to snorkel, there are some fish in the water as well. You can find a small stretch of ocean beach on the back side of the island, although I wouldn't recommend swimming here as it is very rocky.
You receive one meal voucher with the purchase of the excursion. The food was better than I expected, and you do have a variety of choices. You can have a hamburger, hot dog, or chicken sandwich, rice or french fries, a salad, fruit, and water or juice. There is a shaded picnic area with a second floor if you would rather eat in the sun.
If you get tired of lounging out in the sun (or the shade, as there are plenty of palm trees around), you are free to walk around the area where the sea lion and dolphin encounters take place. There are quiet a number of dolphins around, and they will keep you entertained! There is also a touch tank in the same area and a great view of the ocean from here. Ping pong and a little bowling game are included, and there is also a large inflatable area in the lagoon for fun at an extra cost.
There's a little something for everyone at Blue Lagoon Island. My only complaint with this excursion was that the ferry ride over to the island left a half hour late. Considering the ride itself takes about 45 minutes, this did cut down our time to enjoy the island. There are designated times for each cruise ship for the ferry back, and the times were very spread out. We got to the island around 11AM. We could have taken the 2PM ferry back or wait until 4PM which would leave little time to explore the rest of Nassau. Also, our ferry ride back again left late. I expected to learn some history about the island on the ferry ride, but they simply took us back and forth without a word. Regardless, I felt this was the ideal way to relax in the Bahamas!

Not Worth It
I woudn't say you get to explore this island at your leisure. If your boat docks at 12:00 pm, don't take this excursion. You really don't get enough time on the island. It takes a long time to get everyone checked in, then a walk over to the boat and then a long boat ride. The island is really neat, but you won't get to spend enough time there and it's not worth the money.

The boat ride only took 1/2 hour and was very pretty and relaxing. You get there at 2pm and can leave at 4 or 5:30 on the ferry boat. I agree not to get the chicken for lunch but the rest was fine. Adults use the beach to swim by the kids area. The other side is very rocky and hard to get in. Watch for the occasioanal bees by the bar but not seen elsewhere.

Only fun for Families with Children
We (couple in the early Fifties) took the excursion in January 2013. The weather wasn't that fine, cloudy, fresh breeze. The ferry took us from the cruise pier to the blue lagoon. During the ride no informations were given about the history of the harbour or the buildings to be seen during the ride. The island may be fun for families with small children. There is a shallow beach, things to play with in the water are provided. There were beach lounges and hammocks provided. The water was quite shallow and there is only small room for adults to swim. A small beach on the other side of the island is nice but full of rocks, swimming was to dangerous because of the waves. I wouldn't recommand this beach trip for grown ups without children.

NEVER IN BAD WEATHER
WE took this excursion & before we left the pier, high winds approached, then heavy rains. WE still left for the beach & when we got there...everyone lined up for their "lunch" WE stood in about 4 inches of dirty water~approaching the line to get a hamburger or chicken & a drink. The winds were about 50-60 MPH & the hamburgers were flying off people's plates! & YOU ONLY GET 1 COUPON!! YOU couldn't go to the beach. They had other very expensive concessions! THE HIGH LIGHT WAS SEEING THE DOLPHINS & HOW THEY PUSHED PEOPLE INTO THE AIR, WHILE IN THE WATER!
On the way back, we stopped to drop off HOTEL PEOPLE & pick up people from another boat!! WHICH MADE US LATE!! THIS EXCURSION SHOULD HAVE NEVER GONE OUT!! in bad weather!!
CRUISE MONTH Dec. 2012~ this was our 9th NCL CRUISE....WE LOVE NCL!!

What a waste
My family returned from a spectacular week on the EPIC yesterday. The only bummer was this excursion. Partly, it was timing. The ship arrived in Nassau at noon. We had a 12:45 meeting time and with the hundreds of people signed up, it took a long time to get everyone lined up and on the boats. The ride over was somewhat scenic and decent. When we got to the island, it was nice. But we were told we had just under 2 hours to be there. That gave us only enough time to have the provided lunch and a half hour of sun before going back. The lunch was not bad. Burgers, dogs and chicken sandwiches with a little salad and good fries. The lagoon itself was tiny, narrow and only knee deep. In the end, we spent over 2 hours lining up for and riding the boat and less than 2 hours of time to enjoy. Not relaxing at all. Huge waste of money for our group of 13.

Don't do it...
Lines. We lost almost 2 hours in lines before we even left port. Poorly planned. By the time we got to the island, we had about 20 minutes until they closed the food line so we had to dash to get in it. And you only got 1 non-alcoholic beverage free. Then it started to rain and they didn't have many places to go. You had to pay to do everything that was fun and the drinks were as expensive as the ones on the Epic, and there was no free alcohol. Also, there was no place to do any decent snorkeling, so we schlepped all our gear out for nothing. We left right after we ate at around 4pm and we were not scheduled to leave until 5:15pm. If you like to pay a lot of $$$ to have a complete waste of time and money, this is the excursion for you.

I read many good reviews about Blue Lagoon, and was expecting it to be my favorite excursion on 11/9/12. Unfortunately it was the worst. The 40+ minute ride to the lagoon (80+ minutes total) really cuts into your limited time. Our catamaran got tossed around by the waves while going to and from the lagoon. If you get sea sick easily, you better not pick this excursion. The service at the lagoon was very bad. They were not friendly and there was NO music. I was expecting some kind of tropical music. Then for lunch (if you have time) you get a Burger & fries with juice. I wish I had spent my time somewhere other then Blue Lagoon.

Don't waste your money
We did not get to ride a catamaran as told in the description. The beach was dirty and it was definitely not worth using up what little time we had in port to go there. The positive things were it was a nice ride out and the lunch was good. Cruise date was Nov 2012 not 2011. No option for the right year below.

almost got left behind
We had high hopes for a fun filled day. We were enjoying the beach, dolphins and lunch that was provided. That was awesome. The problem was with transportaion back to the ship. They do not give you the correct information about when the last ferry goes back to the cruise ship. We were told by more then one person and also the crew of the ferry, that the last ferry back to the cruise ship was 4pm. Wrong. We took the ferry at 4pm expecting to be taken back to the cruise ship, Guess what, we were dropped off at Atlantis and the Captain of the boat did not care if we had to catch a cruise ship. If not for a complete stranger, we would have been left there, she asked the dive boat across the pier if he would take us back to cruise ship. There were 8 of us. We made it back to the ship as they were pulling in the gang way. Make sure you check with the shore excursion desk on board the day you leave to find out what time the last ferry leaves to come back to the cruise ship.

BEWARE
We had high hopes for this excursion, and it was great at first - secluded beaches, plenty of places to relax, even hammocks. I had just dozed off in one when a downright nasty lifeguard started rounding up all the people from the Norwegian Sky and telling us we had to get back to the ship on the 2 p.m. boat. We didn't believe her, since we had just gotten to the island at about 11 am, and this is supposed to be a 6.5 hour excursion. However, she and the rest of the island staff hassled us until we begrudgingly picked up our stuff and made our way to the boat. When we got there, it was gone - they had promised to hold it for us but didn't. We finally found a nice person on the island who ordered a speed boat for us and the 9 other stranded Norwegian passengers. When we got back to the ship, we complained and got 30% back on the price. Bottom line - don't let them convince you you have to take the 2 pm boat back; you are meant to take the 4 pm boat, and you will make it back to the ship, no matter what the rude island staff tells you.
