Athol Island Snorkel

Board your powered catamaran for a narrated harbor cruise on the way to the snorkeling site off of Athol Island. While cruising around one of the most beautiful harbors in the world, you'll be briefed on historical points of interest as well as the homes of the rich and famous. Once at the snorkel site you'll discover the real beauty of the Bahamas. Snorkel in some of the clearest water you've ever seen. The friendly staff will guide you along the reef and highlight the fish that you see, answering any questions that you might have. Note: Participants must be at least 6 years of age to snorkel, and able to swim. A moderate 10 to 15-minute walk is required to/from the boat. Snorkeling equipment is provided prior to departure.

My wife and I had never snorkeled before. The expedition was nothing fancy, but this may have been the highlight of the cruise. The fish were plentiful, and the crew was friendly and fun. The water was a little cold in early January-- a lot like swimming in a lake. But don't let that stop you. We stayed in the water the entire time.

Not the best
I can only imagine there is better out there than this. The boat was nice enough. Not all that narrated of a tour, more like a guy goes out there for a bit and throws some fish food. No drinks included and they are expensive so bring your own. Saw lots of good fish and had about an hour in the water.

Clear Water w/lots of Sea Life
You take a boat ride there and from the boat, you jump off with all your gear. The water was so clear and the reed was very populated with different types of plants and fish/sea animals. This is well worth the price for the great time we had.
Only drawback, it was a little/very chilly in the water.

This was my second time snorkeling. I saw a variety of fish and was able to dive down to take some pictures. I highly recommend that you bring a waterproof camera! I bought a disposable one for $16 at a drugstore in Nassau. I was disappointed I didn't see any animals besides fish, but other members of our group did see a squid. I didn't see any turtles or stingrays. The boat ride was very enjoyable! They provide a cash bar and snacks for sale on the return trip. Our guide was very nice and he pointed out several celebrity homes. I recommend this excursion!

Great Boat Ride!
My friend and I (mid 20s) did not snorkel however I would still highly recommend this excursion! The boat ride out to the snorkel site was relaxing and fun. We laid on the top deck enjoying just being out on the water while most people snorkeled. One of the crew members pointed out points of interest (i.e. celebrity homes, official buildings on Nassau) and gave a great introduction to the Bahamas, specifically Nassau and Paradise Island on the ride back to port.
I did this excursion in January and the weather was great, warm and sunny!
I would definitely recommend this to anyone including families and even those that do not want to snorkel.
