Amalfi Coast & Pompeii

After a scenic drive, you'll arrive in Pompeii, where you'll visit the Roman resort buried by volcanic ash. Your tour will take you to the city's baths, villas and theaters. See the well-preserved frescoes and mosaic-inlaid floors. Plaster casts mark the positions of the fallen who were swiftly overcome by the ashes. After lunch, if time permits, you'll visit a cameo factory to see how the jewelry is made. Continue along the mountain road, which takes you to one of the picturesque villages of this famous area to explore its quaint streets. Continue along the coast, and take in stunning views at every turn of the winding road. When the Amalfi road closes to traffic (during Holidays), this part of the tour is done by motor boat. The views from the water are simply spectacular. In case of inclement weather and rough seas, the cruise to Amalfi will be substituted by a visit to Sorrento. Note: Tour is not available on the Norwegian Epic April 29th, 2012 sailing or on the Norwegian Spirit October 25th, 2012 sailing. During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long lines. We recommend that you dress in layers and bring bottled water.

Very nice excursion
I think of all the 6 excursions we did this was by far the best. We had a great guide. He was really funny and he made this trip very enjoyable. The coast is just unbelievably beautiful and the stop was very nice - just enough time to explore the place and have a snack or two. The afternoon was spent in Pompeii and once again our tour guide was able to make it interesting. He was very knowledgeable and was able to point out many things. The lunch however was kind of bad and we would have skipped it if given the choice.

Overall a very interesting and informative tour, our guide was extremely knowable on historical and current events. The tour along the Amalfi coast was spectacular as was the visit to Pompeii. Lunch, which was included in the tour price, was very disappointing, went to a restaurant called Voice of the Sea, starters where plentiful but cold and under-cooked, main was chicken, spinach and what were described as potatoes, chicken was greasy and rubbery looked like it was cooked yesterday, veg was again over-cooked and inedible. Desert was a large slice of non-descript cake, our table spent some time trying to guess what flavour it was.

Great Sampling, long day.
We were able to get to Pompeii in the morning. We did have access to bathrooms and water before the tour. Take an umbrella for the sun, it's hot. Very crowded in Pompeii. Lunch was outside under tree lined canopy, and there was a bathroom and gift shop. Lunch was fine, then we had a tour of the olive, lemon and mozzarella farm. Limoncello sampling! Then we drove back and everyone was very tired and it was a long day but they still made the stop into the cameo shop. Half the people stayed on the bus, this stop would not be missed if they took it off the tour. Overall, a great excursion.

Best excursion on our trip
This was the best excursion on our trip. The bus takes you along the coastline. It was so amazing! If you get motion sick this is not the excursion for you. The free lunch was not good at all and we would have rather gone to a cafe on our own. The pictures we took look just like postcards. The tour guide was very informative and was able to answer all of our questions we had. We also enjoyed the trip to Pompeii. It was something we had always wanted to do. The only negative would be that I would have liked more free time to shop.

This shore excursion takes you to two main draws of this port, which would be almost impossible to do on your own. One lesson I learned is that for this particular tour, which side of the bus you sit really matters. The tour only drive through Amalfi coast once, not round trip, so you want to sit on the side close to the coast. Ask your tour guide or driver before you board the bus. Pompeii is very impressive.

Great tour, but they should cut out the shopping
Luigii was a great tour guide. He spoke well and provided great background on both the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. We first drove along the coast road of the Amalfi Coast, which was marvelous. The drive was a bit of a stressor, with the narrow and twisty roads. If you are prone to car sickness, you might not want to take this tour. Still, we loved the tour. We stopped for a washroom break and then at Amalfi. The coast is just amazing. After Amalfi, we proceeded on the autostrada to Pompeii and an included lunch, which was pretty good for a tour lunch. Our Pompeii tour was good, but could have been a bit longer. I had been to Pompeii once before and did the site on my own for three hours. We spent a bit more than one hour there, but still saw a lot. we could have seen more, except for the half hour wasted at the cameo shop. The cameos were very expensive and I don't think anyone in our group purchased any. Still, the tour was great in that we enjoyed both the coast and Pompeii.

Great tour!
I loved the Amalfi coast. The drive is a little windy, but I took some motion sickness medicine to help with that. The views were breathtaking. Make sure to bring enough memory on your camera! We were able to shop in Amalfi for a good bit of time, which is surprising since we're usually pretty rushed on most tours. Make sure you do your souvenir shopping here since I found a lot of junk in other cities, like Rome. After Amalfi, we drove to lunch which was great and then walked to Pompeii. It was a little crowded for me. We waited quite some time to see the brothel, but it was still very interesting. We had some time to shop, but most of the outside vendors sold the same junk. There is a Limoncello factory...make sure you go in and get some samples.
