Pisa & A Taste Of Tuscany

The Leaning Tower and Tuscan wines; what a perfect combination! After meeting your guide in Pisa, and a brief orientation of the Field of Miracles, you'll be free to wander on your own to see the Leaning Tower and discover Pisa's superb black and white marble-enhanced Duomo. If you wish to enter the cathedral, you may do so on your own. Choose to spend your free time either shopping or visiting the magnificent sites. The Tuscan hills are home to some of the finest wines in the world, including Chianti, and we'll take you on a scenic ride through the Italian wine country to visit a famous wine producer, tour the winery, and learn how Tuscan wines are created. Enjoy a typical Italian lunch in this privileged setting and sample a variety of house wines and olive oil, ending with a taste of Vin Santo - a sweet dessert wine. After a day filled with the aromas and tastes of Tuscany, take in more beautiful scenery during the return drive to Livorno. Note: Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately; no bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. In Pisa, you'll have to walk to and from the bus parking area approximately 15 minutes each way.

Beautiful excursion
We chose Pisa & Taste of Tuscany based on recommendations. We would recommend this tour for anyone who wants a little history, a little scenery, and an enjoyable Italian lunch outside with wine. There is some walking in Pisa because the buses cannot park close to the historical sites (be prepared for many people trying to sell cheap goods along the way). Otherwise the tour is very relaxing. Our guide, Andrea, was very knowledgeable. The Leaning Tower, Baptistery and Duomo were beautiful - the white buildings against the blue skies were amazing. A cup of capuccino after the tour was perfect. On the bus ride to the winery we saw some great scenery and brief views of the Alps. The winery had beautiful grounds, vineyards and pool. Food and wine were plenty. This is my 3rd visit to Italy so next time I would choose to see the Cinque Terre area. If this is your first time I would choose to see Florence and Pisa.

Pisa Yes - Winery No
We opted for this excursion and we regret it. Our guide Andrea was excellent and quite knowledgable, and Pisa was wonderful -After leaving Pisa, I regret the rest of the trip. We drove an hour to the winery and did not see wine being processed, just the barrels where the wine is kept. We spent about 2 hours having lunch, and then another hour and half ride back to the port. We should have taken the Pisa/Florence excursion to learn about the history of Florence and to see the art. We missed an opportunity, and I would not do it again. This may be our only time to Italy and we made a mistake by not taking in ALL the wonder of art and history that region has to offer. Do not take this excursion unless you are willing to sacrifice seeing a gem of Italy, Florence..

september 17th,2012. overall the tour was interestng but our guide Andreau wasnt very fun. when we got to Pisa he talked so much about the history of the place we only had 20minutes to walk around. We didnt have time to go up in the tower. If you want to go up it go get tickets first thing, they only let so many people up at a time so tickets go fast. The winery was beautiful it is also a B&B. Lunch was meats/cheese/bread, then pasta, dessert was biscotti to dip in very sweet wine. we tried three of their wines they produce.
i would recommend this tour if you had the right guide and you want a relaxing day.

Tuscany was great but Pisa was frustrating!
The visit to vinyard in Tuscany was great! The food and wine were very good. The farm was very interesting so it was a nice end to the day. However, we were very frustrated with our trip to Pisa - the buses park several blocks away from the Leaning Tower - you go through several streets on a brisk walk then only get a few mins at Pisa. We only had time for a few pictures then it was back to the bus. We should have had more time in Pisa.

My Favorite Excursion
I would definitely do this excursion again!
While I found Pisa to be very touristy, the bonus was the trip to the winery! Our guide, Helen was funny and knowledgeable. The 8-course "lunch" was very good, variety for everyone. We shared endless bottles of 6 different varieties of wine -- I can say that everyone had a great time! Save room for the dessert wine to dip the biscuits in -- it's very tasty (a strong sweet sherry)

I thought this tour was perfect and romantic! My husband and I loved walking around the quiet vineyard vines after dinner. Overall, this excursion had just the right amount of time to walk around Pisa and the leaning tower and enough time to enjoy the lovely dinner at the winery. I never felt rushed (as other excursions felt). It was all you can eat and drink and it was soooo good!! I bought some homemade olive oil, spices, and dried tomatoes (authentic Italian food items), in addition to the wine!!! Definitely do this excursion! It was one of my favorites!!

dissapointed
pisa trip was fine. winery was extremely crowded with only 2 bathroom stalls for men & women !
we were given a 5 min. talk on wines, saw a small part of a vineyard, and were escorted to a tent to sit on picnick tables along with 8-10 other bus loads of people packed in like sardines. bottles of wine were placed on the table with little description of each. we were then left alone to help ourselves. there was no wine pairing. food was mostly pasta and bread. this was not an educational experience at all. if you're a wine enthusiast, you will be offended. got the feeling the winery thought if they got you tipsy enough you wouldn't notice what a scam they have going.
my advise is take any other tour listed or stay on the ship. dont waste your valuable vacation time or money on this one. all the other excursions at all the other ports were excellent.

Best of Both Worlds

My husband and I have always wanted to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa to capture those cheesy tourist photos. Plus, we love wine tasting and learning about wines. For us, this was the best of both worlds. Pisa was very hot, even for September (so we heard) and very crowded with people. But, it was still spectacular and I'm glad we went. Then the winery (Fattoria il Poggio) was so pretty and welcoming. There is outdoor and indoor banquet style seating for the tour groups. Three different wines, bottled water, and table service was already waiting for us. Then they served pasta and a full selection of antipasti and bread - this was family style. You could eat as much or as little as you wanted. Also available to try was their olive oil. Then they served biscotti with a dessert wine. The wine was basically unlimited. They also gave a tour of the vineyard and the olive oil making area. Italian food items and wine were available for purchase at reasonable prices (skip the ones at Pisa). The scenery of Tuscany along the drive was pretty, but not as good as I envisioned. The tour guide was very upbeat and fun.

A dream come true
The tour to Pisa was very informational. Yes, we took the silly pictures of holding up The Leaning Tower of Pisa. We had enough time to tour the area and had a wonderful guide. The only thing was that I did not know until we arrived that you needed tickets to enter the church and cemetary. I recommend you get the tickets first. It was a bit touristy with vendors selling knock off purses outside the city walls. We traveled with a wonderful group and thoroughly enjoyed our winery tour. It was beautiful and the hosts were very gracious. The food and wine were the delicious!!! We brought the rest of the wine onboard the bus for our return trip. I highly recommend this trip because the scenery is amazing. We did travel with our 9 yr old son who also enjoyed the trip.

Wonderful Experience
This was one of our favorite shore excursions. The lunch and wine in Tuscany was delicious and had a feel of authenticity which is hard to get when you are doing a day trip. The amount of walking necessary isn't overly taxing and it is appropriate for almost everyone.

This tour was something out of this world. The day started with a bus-ride to Pisa. Our tour guide was Lucia, and she was very good and explained about the places we were passing. Pisa, I must say, was a surprise for me, not because of the cultural and historical value, but because I found it extremely commercial. Too many cheap tourists trinket salespeople all the way from coming outside of the wall all the way to the entrance of the square and inside the square. And too many African men selling fake things outside of the square! For me, that took away some of the historical value of the visit, but nevertheless it was fascinating to see the square and the tower, and had the most marvelous cappuccino in one of the little cafes outside of the wall. Then it was time to go to the vineyard. We took the road to the Tuscana region and got to see some of the roman aqueduct! We visit La Fattoria Il Poggio in the little town of Montecarlo in Lucca. That was the highlight of the tour. We were instructed about the wine and olive production by Elena (so funny and knowledgeable) and then, the lunch and wine/olive/balsamic vinegar tasting. Can we say, mind boggling excellent? We had a most marvelous lunch of pasta (of course), salad, bread, cheeses, hams, and all the while we got to taste 6 different wines, the olive oil and the vinegar. Now, I've been to wine tastings in Napa Valley where you're only allowed to taste 1 ounce of the wine and for which you have to pay apart from the cost of the tour. Here? you could drink all the wine you wanted, since there were various bottles in each table separated for us! It allow us to get to know our tour mates and exchange stories. The ride back was very loud and funny as a result of that.
