Florence, Shopping & Leisure

This tour gives you a guided introduction to the highlights of Florence and more free time for shopping and exploring this magnificent city at your leisure. Before entering Florence, you'll stop at a leather factory where you'll see artisans at work as well as have the opportunity to do some shopping. Your walking tour starts at the Piazza del Duomo, home to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Continue on to the Piazza della Signoria and see the outside of Dante's home. In the square, view a copy of Michelangelo's David (not the original) and the Loggia dei Lanzi, along with other sculptures. Next, visit Santa Croce Square, where your guide will explain, from the outside, the details of what is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Italy. You'll have approximately 3 1/2 hours to explore, shop and enjoy lunch on your own. The pick-up point and time will be provided by the tour escort. Note: There will be only one departure from Florence. Please return to the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately; no bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. Your guide will join you in Florence, however you will have an escort with you throughout the day. The level of exertion during free time is completely up to you.

Good Excursion
I highly reccommend this excursion. The only problem we had was our guide. While she was very informative, she talked too long at each stop and constantly repeated herself. She figured out she was boring her group and finally let us go. This did not give us the time we expected to dine and shop. Otherwise great excursion. Florence is a great place to shop. Wear comfortable shoes.

Good half tour/half on your own
This was a good half and half tour: half tour, half free time. Our guide rode with us to Florence, about 1 hour from the port. We stopped at a leather factory to use the restroom and some people purchased purses/belts/gloves, ect. We then took a walking tour of Florence and had about 3.5 hours of free time. Make sure you purchase your tickets to see the Statue of David before the trip, we had a reservation at 2:30 that worked perfect. Since we didn't really want to shop, we definitely would have had enough time to see Pisa as well, but this tour at least gave us a small guided tour with some background about the city.

A perfect balance
I found this excursion to be a perfect balance of an organized tour and plenty of free time. Our very knowledgeable tour guide gave us the highlights of this beautiful city for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. We had the rest of the day to experience Florence on her own. The city of Florence small enough that you do not feel overwhelmed.
Everything was well-organized from meeting with the shore excursion team in the epic theater to the bus ride to Florence.

Not for the faint of foot
We visited in August and Floremce was incredibly crowded, which significantly hampered the experience. There's nothing NCL or our tour guide could do about that, of course. But the tour was a lot of walking at a fairly brisk pace, including a 20 minute or so schlep back to the bus at the end. I would rate it a 3 on the exertion scale.
