Combine the beautiful village of Sintra and the mysterious Pena Palace with important highlights of Lisbon on this full day tour. Start with a panoramic tour of Av. da Liberdade, Restauradores, Rossio and Comercio Squares. You'll drive through Sintra's national protected forest area along twisted and narrow roads to a mysterious world, passing en route by Regaleira mystic palace. Visit Pena Palace situated in Pena Park, a stretch of rambling woodland, with a scattering of lakes and foliage. The palace is also associated to the Portuguese Discoveries, it was constructed over the ruins of a convent built to celebrate the first sight of Vasco da Gama's returning fleet; a chapel and Manueline Cloister have been retained. Pena National Palace offers a mix of styles and colors and from its viewpoints you'll have breathtaking vistas of the city below and surrounding area. Continue to the Romantic Village of Sintra, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. The tall conical chimneys of the National Palace and the fabulous Pena Palace, eerily impressive on its peak, are two unmistakable landmarks of this area. After lunch at a regional restaurant you may have some free time to explore the narrow cobbled lanes of this quaint village and browse through the various shops. Before returning to your ship, visit the church of the impressive Jeronimos followed by the Monument of Discoveries, built to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry.
Note: This tour has limited participation and it is conducted in small groups, as large tour buses cannot go up the narrow roads leading to Pena Palace. When visiting religious sites, please dress respectfully; no bare shoulders or shorts allowed. Free time depends on traffic conditions and the pace of the tour; we make sure all of the sites are visited. Only if the schedule allows it, you'll have leisure time. Visit to religious sites may be affected by special ceremonies that may happen without prior notice. There is approximately 1/2 mile of walking, at Pena Palace on inclines and cobblestone streets, staircases and narrow entrances. Sintra Village involves walking on uneven ground.
