Bear Creek Zipline

Enter the fly-zone! An eco-rainforest adventure for those seeking excitement and exhilaration! Featuring seven zip lines, 10 lofty tree platforms, Alaska's longest sky bridge, a 250-foot long mountain slide, and rappelling. Your adventure begins with a ride up the steep hillside in a custom all-terrain 4x4 Mercedes Unimog, to the outfitting chalet. After outfitting and an orientation, it's an uphill hike via an improved rainforest trail to a ground-based practice zip line, where your guides introduce you to zipping. This is your introduction to 5,200 feet of dual cable zip lines, intersected with a 250-foot long suspension bridge, providing an aerial view of Bear Creek and a forest waterfall. You'll rappel to the ground from the last tree platform. Speeding down the mountain slide will be one of the highlights of your zip line adventure. Experience the panoramic ocean, forest and mountain views from the tree platforms on this exciting and safe adventure at the lush Herring Cove rainforest reserve, an eight mile coastal drive from Ketchikan. In addition to tall stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, the ecosystem here supports an extensive wildlife population. Although sightings cannot be guaranteed, guests often see eagles and bears. Board the Unimog for a forest hillside descent and transportation to the base camp, where you'll be presented with a special award in recognition of your achievement. View your action photograph and shop in the General Store before departure for the dock. Note: Participants must be a minimum height of 50 inches, in good physical condition, and weigh between 70 lbs. and 250 lbs. Pregnant women and guests with injuries/seizure disorders are not admitted. Completion of a waiver and/or release form is required. We recommend you wear layered clothing and long pants. Closed-toe shoes are required. Order of tour may vary. For more details about these tours please visit: http://spiritofalaskatours.com/Norwegian/Zipline-Bearcreek-Ketchikan.html

My husband and I are pretty adventurous people and thought this would be a great excursion for us. We had a good time, but wished the ziplines were longer and more advanced. It was designed more for families. However the scenery was beautiful and the guides were wonderful. They told us some really fun stories about their own Alaskan adventures. We also learned a lot about the trees and vegetation in the area.
Overall this was a decent excursion, but we'd hoped it would be a little more advanced.

I'm a 42 year old woman, average weight and height... a bit out-of-shape. I went with hubby and 15 year old daughter. A bus took us to the "Alaskan Rainforest Sanctuary." At the sanctuary we loaded into a hill-climbing vehicle that took us up a dirt road to the Zip. We were suited up and given lots of instruction before the zip. I was concerned that since I'm out-of-shape this would be beyond my level of fitness. IT WAS NOT. The uphill walk that I had done earlier from the town to the Totem Center was harder than the stairs at the Zip Lines. WE HAD A BLAST! It was raining lightly and it didn't stop us from having a blast at all. Actually, the guides said it made the zips funner because you go faster, and I think they were right on. The zip course is amazing and beautiful and I wanted to do the whole thing over again when we were done. That being said, there were quite a few lines, and a neat suspension bridge. The staff was excellent and fun, but VERY careful and I felt very safe. This was the most fun of any excursion on this trip and I'd do it again for sure. At the end of the zip lines you repel on a rope to get down from an elevated platform; they set you up and it's simple. Then you descend down a super slide in a sack. Once you're done you are loaded back onto the big truck and driven back down to where you started (almost). At the end they drop you at a gift store that has free coffee/hot chocolate and other food is available for purchase. The gift store is decent with lots of clothes and other stuff, and fair prices. They take a picture of you on the last zip and photos are available for purchase. After some time at the gift shop (30-45 minutes) the bus comes to pick you up and bring you back to the pier.
This was SO much fun and SO beautiful. I don't know how anyone could not love it. It's safe and fairly easy.., small kids to seniors do it. But there were also experienced zippers and in-top-shape participants that loved it too. It's really a great course. Don't worry... if you can walk up two or three flights of ships stairs.., then you can do this course, and you won't regret it.

Best Shore Excursion
This was the best shore excursion we had on our Alaskan cruise. The guides were very friendly and very safety-conscious. With 6 zip lines to do, you get to spend a lot of time having fun! And while you're on a platform waiting for your turn, the views are absolutely beautiful. It's definitely for the whole family - the ages in our group alone ranged from 8 to 60.

Fantastic experience
My wife, myself and our two teenage sons just did this excursion. We all had a fantastic experience. Our guides Pete and Ricky were absolutely wonderful. Even some periods of heavy rain did not ruin our fun! This is a must do activity!!!

Awesome Fun
this zip line tour was so much fun, I only wish it would have lasted longer. We sailed over the tree tops on 6 different lines, one rappelling and topped it off with the awesome slide down the chute. Our guides Waddell and Adam were exceptional. So much fun to hang out with for the day and so attentive to each and everyone in our group. They had a great sense of humor, high energy levels and always kept us safe. My daughter and friends grand daughter fell in love with Adam. I would definitely recommend this tour, we had people in our group from 11 years old to 61 years old and everyone had an equally awesome time. Views were breathtaking, did not require a lot of walking that would wear someone out although all in our group were in good physical condition, but this could be done by anyone. Highly recommend it, you will love it. Plus you get a medal when your done, what better souvenir.

Was a bit let down based on the previous reviews. Others traveling with us had a better experience at a different zipline provider.
Was also not permitted to use a camera by our guide (one said yes, other said no).
Their pictures are $20 a piece.

Great excursion!
This excursion was our favorite, definitely a must-do! It's a lot of fun to zip-line through the forest while looking at some wildlife below you and enjoying the beautiful weather. The guides were great and made us feel very comfortable as this was our first time zip-lining. Highly recommended!
