Lighthouse, Totems & Eagles Excursion

This excursion guarantees excellent eagle viewing. Majestic totems and a waterfront clan house demonstrate the historical native culture at Totem Bight State Park. Get a close-up view of Guard Island Lighthouse. Enjoy a short narrated drive through Ketchikan en route to meet your Captain and Alaskan crew. Board your vessel, where you'll hear professional narration, while you munch on salmon spread, cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, and cookies. Hot chocolate, coffee, tea, water, or soft drinks are all free. Relax in the heated main cabin or experience the open-air observation deck. Observe the areas of harvest and ancient old growth, and learn of the historical and modern uses of this very special temperate rainforest and its complex ecosystem. Cruise by historic Ward Cove Cannery and Loggerville, Alaska's only 'floating town.' One half of this tour features the Revillagigedo Island waterfront; with its homes of the local 'rich and famous,' while the remainder explores the remote Guard Island and primitive Gravina Island. Binoculars are provided for your use. Eagles, of course, are guaranteed and we usually see harbor seals and abundant moon jellyfish. Whales, deer, blue heron and a variety of gulls and sea birds are also common. Note: We recommend you bring a warm, rainproof jacket to wear on the observation deck. great tour
The crew was very knowledgeable and helpful. One person on our tour suddenly needed AA batteries and the crew didn't even hesitate. They just found the batteries for their customer. My husband requires extra help and there was no problem there either. The salmon spread they served was great and they even tell you how to make it. The only problem was that it was over too soon. I could have stayed all day!! We were not fortunate enough to see whales, which they said they often do but we saw seals and lots of eagles.

Best Tour Ever
Captain Joe, Glenn and Micah were the best. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and were happy to have us on board their boat. Glenn told us that Micah lived on a small island a couple of hundred yards from the harbor we sailed from, taking a skiff from the island to shore, walking quite a distance to the highway to catch the school bus. I told her she was my new hero. This was the best tour we had during our 7 day Alaskan cruise. It is a MUST activity. Don't miss out on seeing the majestic bald eagles and the awesome totem poles and the amazing light house. You will not be disappointed. Our tour was in August of 2012.

Awesome excursion
This was our first excursion on our cruise and despite the rain we had a fabulous time. The crew was friendly and we saw several eagles and a couple of sea lions. The lighthouse was awesome and loved the salmon spread and recipe! Would absolutely recommend this excursion.

A fun boat trip
We enjoyed this tour because the guide and his assistants were interesting and gave us good intormation. We saw lots of eagles, the totems and a lighthouse, as advertised and spent time leisurely cruising the area. A good family excursion.

Don't Waste Your Money
I only rated this as a one star because 0 wasn't available. Don't waste your time either - easy walk w. 2 eagles and nothing else, terrible guide - talked really, really fast, drive by totems and no lighthouses.

Saw Bald eagles immediately. Disappointed that we saw totem poles from the boat and not on land. The lighthouse was about 4 feet tall....not your typical lighthouse also seen from the boat. Very disappointed in that. I would only recommend this trip for eagle sighting. This trip was May, 2012 (not 2011).

Not worth the time or money!!!!
After a very short trip on the bus from the port, the driver read signs off bldgs as he passed them. Boat was moored in the back of a boatyard and was very old . The narration of the area highligghts were broadcast over a pa system that was too low to hear when it was working at all. Saw alot of eagles, and some Totems in the distance from the boat. We did see the Guard island lighthouse which , as lighthouses go, it was not very impressive at all !!! When our boat ride was over we were escorted to the aforementioned boatyard where we waited for 45minutes in a cold rain for the pickup bus to arrive. None of the boats staff knew where the bus was or how to contact the bus driver. Needless to say this excursion was NOT the highlight of our Alaskan Cruise.

NOT FOR ME
i went to this in 2009 and even though I am going back to viist Alaska in 2012, this I will skip. The eagle next were to far away even with bincoluars it was hard to see. Went by an area to see sea lions could not spot them. Went by this lighthouse that was looked like an old shack

What a GREAT time we had! Cap'n Rob provides truly interesting and comical narration of the sights as we take our journey on his boat. We must have seen over a dozen bald eagles in their natural environment, not caged up in a zoo. In addition we saw seals and even a pair of sea lions. It was a magnificent shore excursion with a great captain and truly friendly and knowledgeable crew! Well worth the money!

Best Excursion
This was the best of all the excursions we took. We saw so many eagles and other wildlife. It was mid Sept. and while some of the other excursions had difficulty fulfilling brochure descriptions, this one had no problem. The crew is so friendly and helpful. It was like being on a family or friends boat. Well worth the money and I would highly recommend. You will not be disappointed!!

A Must See
Captain Rob was so knowledgeable and informative about everything we saw from the eagles and other wildlife as well as the totems and lighthouse. We cruised by a floating village with many seals that have taken up residency. We saw lots of eagles and eagle nests. The scenery was breathtaking! Cruising along the shoreline we were able to view many beautiful homes. We were so fortunate to see humpback whales up close and even a group of them "bubble netting." How thrilling that experience was! Capt. Rob and his 2 crew members were extremely accommodating. Binoculars were provided for your use and they also had snack and drinks for you.

Amazing Eagle Viewing
This cruise was wonderful. Captain Rob pointed out so many eagles and sights throughout the tour. He took time so that everyone got to see the eagles. Our favorite excursion of the Alaskan cruise!

Yes, GO : )
The captain and crew were very informative, humorous and knowledgable. Lots of bald eagles and nests, one cove of seals, No whale sightings, though. Great hot chocolate and munchies. Could do without the house commentaries and therefore make the trip a bit shorter!

Great Excursion
This was a wonderful excursion. We saw mother eagles feeding their eaglets, at least six eagle nests, beautiful eagles everywhere. The lighthouse, totem poles and the stories about them were very interesting. The beautiful houses and the stories about their owers was very entertaining. The Captain was entertaining, the crew was polite and willing to help. The salmon dip and crackers was delicious. The hot chocolate was appreciated. The boat has everything needed for a three hour tour. Don't miss this excursion.

This excursion made our cruise. We had great views of eagles on nests and enough time to take pictures. Heard several several stories about the totempoles (more than the people from our party that visited the state park.) Heard the history of Guard Island Lighthouse. The Captain added local stories and had a great sense of humor. The staff was attentive and available to help. This is topped with great snacks and drinks served during the trip.

Eagles and more eagles! I chose this excursion for my 7 year old daughter and myself so we could see some wildlife for a reasonable price and not too long. We got to see eagles and some harbor seals, the group the day before got to see a humpback whale. It was a bit early in the season to see bears since the salmon weren't spawning yet. But Captain Rob made it very educational and even my daughter enjoyed it.
