Secret Waterfalls Of Kohala

By exclusive access, treat yourself to a swim under a private waterfall. North Kohala is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Hawaii; rushing streams, sparkling waterfalls, lush tropical foliage, and rugged sea cliffs. Come along and visit this fertile and abundant heart of Kohala and explore its rich natural and cultural heritage. Enjoy a beautiful and informational narrative drive to the remote north end of the island followed by a short off-road adventure to the trailhead in our rugged 6WD Pinzgauer. Your interpretive guide leads the way on this educational and fun exploration of these remote and private lands. Along with an abundance of romantic waterfalls, the short mile and a half trail has three bridges, two idyllic streams, traditional Hawaiian taro terraces and irrigation flumes. Here's your chance to "lose yourself" in a cool mountain stream with cascading waterfalls overhead or simply relax trailside. A delicious deli-style lunch makes this the ideal Hawaii adventure. Note: Participants must be at least 4 years of age. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a swimsuit. This tour is not for guests who have chronic back or neck problems, which have had previous back or neck surgery or would have trouble walking on uneven terrain or slippery surfaces.

Pinzgauer a distraction
The 6 wheeled Pizgauer was a distraction more than anything. You ride it up to the start of your hike. It does take well over an hour to get there so most of your day is spent travelling. Once you get there though, the scenery is breath taking!

Fun tour
The tour picks you up from the pier and you drive about 45 minutes outside of Kona to pick up at WW2 era vehicle. The vehicle is very bumpy but is necessary to drive over the "roads" on the private land. On the tour you see 4 or 5 waterfalls and then have lunch at a scenic overlook on the private property. Without this tour we would not have seen any of this beautiful scenery. My one complaint was that the tour was advertised as 6 hours, but actually lasted 7 hours, which could have been an issue if we had something else booked for the afternoon.

Our guide, Stephanie, was very knowledgeable and provided interesting stories during the trip. It was quite a long drive but we had plenty of time to hike around and view the different points of interest. She even let us pick the ripe wild guava that grew all over the property. Lunch was fresh and delicious.

GREAT FUN AND EDUCATIONAL
My wife, grandson (17) and I took this excursion in early June. It was time well spent. The trip out to the site is interesting. Our guide, Matt, did an excellent job of telling about the history of the area and explaining the things we saw. Near the site we transfered to 6 wheel drive Swiss army vehicles and drove to a private area with a locked gate. Our group was the only one there. The trails were not hard. We passed numerous waterfalls of various sizes and heights. The guide gave alot of interesting information about the area. At one large fall and pool everyone in the group went swimming - cold but envigorating. Lunch was at picnic tables on a cliff overlooking a beautiful valley with the ocean at its edge. This was one of our better excursions; even the grandson enjoyed it. Do not miss it if you like to hike and see the plants and terrain.
