Kailua Glass-bottom Boat

Enjoy Kona's underwater paradise without getting wet! Cruise aboard Marian, a 36-foot glass-bottom boat specially designed to cruise within inches of the reef. Have your camera ready to capture the colorful fish, corals and other sea creatures. Marian is designed with shaded comfort and clear viewing, and as you cruise along, you'll enjoy breathtaking vistas of the island's rugged shoreline. Step forward to the bow and you might see frolicking dolphins, or humpback whales (December-April). Throughout your adventure, the onboard naturalist will share tales and legends that evoke the magic of the sea and Hawaii. This is a perfect compliment to your day in Kona! Marian departs from your launch site at Kailua Pier, allowing you time to enjoy other excursions or a stroll through Kailua Village. Note: All efforts will be made to view the dolphins and whales, but sightings cannot be guaranteed.

One hour wasted
Having been on a glass bottom boat in Kona before, 4-5 varieties of fish, 3-4 types of coral is not what I call a good value. Friends had seen turtles on the other side of the dock area earlier in the day. If they would check and have more than one place to go-you can't control fish, but maybe have more areas to visit. The guide was knowledgable, boat was clean. No "ahhhh" or "oh,look!" factor.

We were unable to do our original booked excursion of a submarine ride due to ocean currents our day at Kona, so we jumped on this one at the last minute, instead. Convenient as it leaves from the same pier used for tendering to/from POA at Kona. Inexpensive, short excursion that is a relaxing way to see the reef and the small fish that live off it. Didn't see anything spectacular, but had no expectations of it, either. It was pretty & educational & relaxing - to sit on benches & lean over the glass viewing areas, then also to look back at the beautiful shores along Kona and at POA anchored a short distance away. Nice photo ops!
