Glacier View Bike & Brew

This tour gives you a chance to experience the beauty that surrounds Juneau at a slower pace with friendly, knowledgeable, local guides. On the van ride to the departure point, hear about Juneau's history plus interesting information on the city and its surroundings. You'll be fitted with a street bike, helmet, and water bottle and you will receive a safety briefing. The first stop is by the Chapel-by-the-Lake, a lovely old log chapel with a spectacular view of Auke Lake and the Mendenhall Glacier in the background. The ride continues to the west side of the Mendenhall Glacier, with a beach stop for a snack. Then, proceed to the visitor area at the east side of Mendenhall Glacier. This portion of the ride includes a one-mile trail ride through the rain forest. At the end of the ride, you will have a chance to spend time at Mendenhall Glacier. Next travel by van to Merchant's Wharf, an old sea plane hangar in downtown Juneau and a landmark in aviation history; there taste award winning beers from micro-breweries around Alaska. Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age or 4' 8" in height and in good physical condition. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Completion of a waiver and/or release form is necessary and cannot be signed by relatives that are not a minor's legal guardian. Must be at least 21 years of age to taste the beer and a photo ID with date of birth is required.

Great Fun
This was a real fun ride. The people that led us on the bike ride were very effcient and caring. Got to see a part of Alaska I otherwise would have missed. My wife and I had a lot of fun. You wont be sorry if you select this event.

Great excursion but need more time at glacier
My husband and parents and I did this excursion on our cruise in June 2012. The bike ride was nice and long and took you through the "real" Juneau. The tour guides were fun and energetic. The ride was kind of hard at first, most of us walked our bikes up the hills. After that, it is flat or downhill the rest of the way. You get 2 stops and 2 different views of the glacier but each for only about 20/30 minutes. My only complaint was not having enough time at the Mendenhall Glacier park. We parked a little far from the park and it was a 10 minute walk there, 10 minutes back, which gave us only 10-15 minutes to view the glacier.
The beer tasting was great. The bartender was funny and knowledgable. There were 6 pretty goood sized tastings and the bar was open for more beer to purchase afterwards.
All in all I would recommend it! Great if you love beer and want a brisk bit of exercise after eating your weight in food on the ship!

The overall bike path is about 8 miles, and there is really only 1 hill. You start off in a not so touristy area along the lake with an amazing view of the Glacier. Then you bike for another 4-5 miles to the main glacier viewpoint. After this you take the van back to downtown Juneau to the Flight-Deck for your beer tasting. The beer tasting was pretty good, you have 4 different Alaskan Brewing company (it's brewed in Juneau), and then a couple of other local brews. If you don't want to just walk around the downtown, and you are looking for a little exercise then I highly recommend this particular excursion. Nick & Nick were both excellent tour guides, and extremely knowledgeable of the surrounding area.
