This was by far the highlight of our trip to Alaska. Our son is just crazy for dogs and learning how to mush, talk with and pet the dogs and PUPPIES was a delight for him. The helicopter ride up to the dog camp was beautiful and informative. Although I think they should update the commentary tape that was played over the headsets. 2 hours is not enough time, I wanted to stay longer, but it was all so worth it.

Well worth it!
My wife and I went on this excursion, and we have to say it was totally worth it. We were blessed with beautiful weather--we went on August 14, 2012--locals said that it was the first day in 3 months without rain (!). Helicopter ride to the glacier was phenomenal--pilot was very friendly and informative--helicopter seats a total of 4 passengers plus the pilot--I did not feel cramped at all, but what do you expect for a helicopter? The dog camp is a loud, exciting place where the dogs just cannot wait to be mushed. The people who ran the camp were very courteous and spent a lot of time with us. They put 4 cruisers on per sled together with the driver--and we each took turns riding the back of the sled where the brake is located. We drove around on a 2 mile long "trail" on the glacier. Scenery was magnificent. Dogs were amazing. Helicopter ride was breathtaking. Though this the priciest excursion, my wife and I had no regrets, and we highly recommend this to others!

Amazing!
This excursion was fantastic! But be forewarned, you may not be able to go. My husband and I had booked this excursion for our trip on the Pearl. When we got to Juneau, we got off the boat right away and went to where we were supposed to meet up. Everything was fine and we got to the place the helicopter would take off from. We watched a safety video, got our boots on, got our life jackets on... and then were told that due to bad weather, we couldn't go. Thankfully, the company also did the same tour in Skagway, our next destination. We went back to the boat and booked it for the next day and were able to go no problems.
This was a bit expensive, but well worth the money. It was my favorite thing we did the entire time we were on the cruise! If you can go (and don't mind shelling out the money) do it! The views from the helicopter ride are amazing and getting to drive the dog sled is so much fun. Plus you get to meet and love on all of the dogs (and some puppies too!). We had a great time!!!
If you are going, I would for sure book for Juneau. Then if it gets cancelled, you can try for Skagway.
