Taku Lodge Feast & 5-glacier Seaplane Discovery

Seaplane only access to Alaska's famous Taku Glacier Lodge combines classic powerful aircraft, true wilderness, 5-massive glaciers, bears, vivid history with dog sledding roots, seafood and exclusive glacier view dining! You're in for the journey of a lifetime. Fly in a classic de Havilland seaplane over 5 breathtaking glaciers flowing from the Juneau Icefield, deep blue crevasses, snow-capped mountains, and the lush Tongass National Forest. Seeing glaciers from the air is an Alaskan must, and doing so by authentic Alaskan bush plane is the quintessential Alaskan experience! The Taku River will be your "runway" as you land at the elegantly rustic historic Taku Lodge, built in 1923 and located across the river from the 5 mile wide Taku Glacier, Juneau's largest glacier and one of only a few advancing glaciers in the world. Savor a feast of Fresh Wild Alaska King Salmon grilled to perfection, a chicken alternative, Taku baked beans, coleslaw, pioneer fruit compote, fresh herb biscuits and sourdough bread, all made from scratch. Drinks are chilled and served with actual glacier ice and special-recipe ginger cookies complete the meal. The scrumptious aroma of the alderwood grill attracts not only visitors daily, but also wild black bears. Take a guided interpretative nature walk, stroll the trails or soak in the serenity of a place barely touched by time before your return flight to Juneau. You can do it all with this exclusive combination tour of Alaska's premier attractions! Note: Flight time is approximately 50 minutes. All participants enjoy a window seat for enhanced viewing and a headset for continuous narration. The Taku Glacier Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places. Weight surcharge does not apply. This tour is non-refundable. For more details about this tour please visit: www.alaskaglacierflightseeing.com

Taku Lodge flight & feast was wonderful!
Choosing an excursion in Juneau was difficult because there are so many great choices but we were very happy we chose this one! I felt like we had to see the glaciers from the air, which was even more incredible than I expected. And the lodge with it's fabulous salmon dinner with all the trimmings, a bear that came up for the grill juice afterwards, and a leisurely stroll through the woods afterwards made for a wonderful afternoon! We were very lucky to have a clear warm cloudless day in the 70's but I think this would be beautiful even in the rain. Wonderful photo ops from the plane of the Juneau ice field, just amazing! After two days on the ship we enjoyed getting up in the air and on land at the lodge, rather than going back out on the water to whale watch, or any other water excursion. We saw many orcas from the ship anyway, which was a wonderful treat!

Taku Lodge, I saw a bear!
If you are trying to narrow down which excursion to take in Juneau, you're done. This one is it. I wasn't sure myself until I watched the video of this one. The video indicated a possibility of a bear showing up seeking the salmon being prepared. From then on, I was in. For starters, the pilot was great and being in a floatplane was beyond cool. As it turned out, a bear did indeed arrive about 10 minutes before the float planes did. He was big and beautiful and gorgeous. The staff kept him at bay while the salmon grilled. The feast inside was spectacular. I actually bought the recipe book that each item could be found in too. I'm not sure children truly appreciate what they are seeing and experiencing though. All considered, it was just an incredible day. Book it.
