Best Excursion of our Holiday
This was the best and most fun excursion of our holiday. The route cycled is mainly flat with only one short uphill section. Both in our early 50's we had no trouble. Our driver Shaun and tour guide Allen were very friendly, helpful and informative. I would recommend this trip to anyone who can ride a bike.

Great Excursion
October 2012. Highly recommend this trip! Our tour/bike guides, Po & Alan both accomplished riders who clearly enjoyed their job. The bikes were in excellent condition & helmets & water were provided for the ride. Plenty of photo opportunities.
We learned a lot about the geology & history of the area including the town of Hilo throughout the tour. The descent is gradual with stops along the way for different vews of the volcano crater. There is a walk through the Thurston lava tube at the end & snacks provided that included fresh fruit, juice, crackers. A nice touch also was the cool peppermint scented towel to clean up with when we were finished riding. Last stop on the way to the pier was Big Island Chocolates which was a nice way to end the day. Mahalo!

Biking fun!
The guides are very well versed in geology and you learn so much. You start at the vistors center then bike the rest of the day. The bikes were in good condition, but the seats are typical. Suggest bike shorts if you're not used to riding that much. While you do get snacks, after riding 8 miles, I needed something more substantial. You will get a good workout!

Best of the cruise
Eric and Daniel were our guides. They were both super. Their knowledge, both have college degrees, was extensive. They knew the geology, plants, history, and volcanic dynamics. The bike ride was not difficult and the stops were necessary to learn more. I would say that this is a don't miss excursion.

Must Do
The adventure had it all. History, nature, some activity, and the best way I can think of to spend the day at the National Park. The guides were not only informative, but had the perfect personaility for their job.

worthy excursion
This excursion was great, our driver "PO" was very helpful in explaining our travels and various locations to and from the Kilauea volcano area. Our biking guy, "Daniel" did a great job in explaining the various stops while we were in the biking portion of the excursion. I would recommend this to all.

Volcanic Adventure not to be missed!
My family (2 adults, 2 teens) enjoyed this excursion immensely! Our tour guides, Eric and Po, gave us wealth of information while making the trip fun, safe and memorable. From the moment we left the pier, our vanload of participants were encouraged to be "ohana" (family) . The day began with a trip up the volcano to the Jaggar Visitor's center. We were given the option to use provided raingear and it was on to hike the rainforest and lava tube; then a quick safety presentation on biking and we began our descent on Chain of Craters road. Incredible scenery, great exercise, we were even treated to fresh fruit grown in Eric's backyard! At any time during biking, you can ride in the van if you want to...but it's all downhill so really not a hard ride. Water bottles and refreshments are provided. It is a great time; don't forget sunscreen. A quick stop at Big Island Candies concluded our day. The tour was about 6.5 hours long, total. Nui Pokahu (the tour company) is a top-notch organization. Very worth the money spent....don't miss it!!

great views, real cycling
Great views. There are actually a series of craters, not just one, and we cycled from one to the next. This is definitely harder cycling than going down Haleakala - they have some real hills and you should know how to ride. The bikes were in good shape. They allowed riders to pass each other (otherwise I would have lost my mind on the hills) and the group would reassemble at the top of the hill.

awesome excursion!!
Thanks to all previous cruisers who gave this excellent reviews and convinced me to try it despite not having been on a bicycle in over 20 years. (The hills were doable and my sons enjoyed the long downhill). Our guides, Kirk and Tyler, were excellent in their knowledge of the geography, volcanology, and rainforest plants, etc, and they were very helpful with the bikes and staying safe. It was fun, and we saw and learned so much. The entire excursion was absolutely one of the best we did....(could have skipped the candy store). A must do !!

Best Excursion of Cruise
This was the best excursion of the 3 that we took during our cruise. Nate, our van driver, and Po, our biking guide, were awesome. We learned so much about the geology of the island/volcanos, the history of the Hawaiian people, how to pronounce Hawaiian words, and so much more. Our guides were so good that we missed having them on the other excursions we took. There is some uphill biking, but it's not bad. I actually preferred the uphill part, as I was nervous going downhill. I originally thought that I might need to ride in the van for some portions, but I only needed to get off the bike and walk it up one small hilly portion. I would highly recommend going on this tour.
