A nice relaxing day
The resort is a great place to hang out for a day if you're looking for a relaxing or fun day at the beach. The resort had lots of amenities-free food, drinks, activities, archery, a nice garden path, a wonderful beach, and a pool. I wouldn't say it's too family-friendly though. I traveled with my husband and saw families with children and heard many complaints of "I'm bored" from the kids, but we loved it. The food wasn't anything to write home about (though was a VAST improvement from the food on the cruise ship itself), but we had to wait in long lines under the hot sun. Same thing applies for the drink-a lot of wait for not a lot of alcohol. The server actually ran out of cups once and disappeared for over ten minutes searching for some. Here's a tip-hit the bar inside the lobby, there's rarely a wait. Overall, I'd recommend this side trip if you or your family likes chilling by the beach/pool, and just soaking up the sun!

Not a lot of excitement to offer youngsters but my husband and I enjoyed every minute! We appreciated the beachfront lounge chairs and I loved the snack bar and continuous open bar. The hot tub wasn't hot but the meals were excellent! The breakfast buffet at Junkanoo and the pesto linguine at the cafe were out of this world and our server, Lynnette, was the best! My husband was thoroughly impressed with the entertainment (I'm more of a book at the beach vacationer), one night was incredible trapeze artists and the next was a spot on Michael Jackson tribute, they even got the audience up & dancing! We stayed in April 2011 and I'm thrilled to learn today that Viva Fortuna is an 'excursion' on the Norwegian cruise I booked for August 2013!! No doubt we'll be back, best (laid back) resort we've ever visited!

The beach was actually nice, but the resort wasn't. Very disorganized. The guests that pay to stay there all week you can tell are quite annoyed when Cruise ships send people there. Food wasn't really good. Very slow service for drinks. We were glad we were on the cruise because if we stayed there for a week we probably would have been miserable. Very mediocre place.

The beach was absolutely beautiful! If you want a relaxing day at the beach, THIS IS IT! I would say it would be more fun for adults and teens more so than children. Lots of huts to lay under on the beach...beautiful pool area...unlimited mixed drinks...snorkeling...sailing...kayaking...extensive buffet of food (breakfast AND lunch!)...all included in the price! The facilities were very nice inside. The ONLY negative thing about it for us was the vendors they allow on the beach. But there were only 3 of them (2 guys selling shells, and 1 lady selling hair braiding) and they were pretty nice and not pushy at all. Just lay there and soak up the sun, read your book, or whatever and they will leave you alone. The pic attached is our little hut...oh how we miss it!!

Okay Excursion
If you want a quiet, contained place to be for the day than you will probably enjoy yourself here. The bus ride was about 30 minutes from the ship and we were transported in an older bus The resort itself looked like it had seen better days and was in need of some TLC. They were doing some repairs to a few buildings while we were there and their hot tub was not operational. They did have kayaks and snorkel gear that you could use and scuba lessons going on in the pool. They offer small catamarans and wind surfing but the lessons are at 10:00am, so if you don't get there early enough you are out of luck. The food was not all that good, but the drinks are free so if you have enough of them you may not notice the poor food quality. Cruise ship food was much better. The beach was nice and was not crowded at all. I think I enjoyed our walk on the beach and the kayaking the best. Just FYI~ there are no showers for you to use, only bathroom stalls to change in. Overall, I felt that this excursion was a bit pricey for what we got. A day there was fine, but I was happy we were not there for the week. I will say that they resort staff were very friendly.
