Garden Of The Groves

Enjoy a narrated bus ride through the industrial area of Grand Bahama Island, passing the International Bazaar with its Tori Gate, along Church Row and the endemic pine forest. Upon arrival at the Botanical Garden of the Groves you have the option of a guided tour or to explore on your own. Interpretive signs will highlight this lush tropical landscape with trees and flowers from the Bahamas and around the world. You'll find a replica of the original chapel from the early logging days, tranquil lagoons with cascading waterfalls, a spiritual labyrinth for meditation and an open-air cafe deck. Local artisans will display authentic Bahamian arts and crafts. Children will also be able to enjoy a magnificent cedar play set. Walk down into the cool fern grove and marvel at the magnificent limestone boulders that tower to both sides of your trail! You may also want to relax on the 'Lofty Fig' deck where cool Bahamian drinks and local delicacies can be purchased. After your visit to the gardens you'll be transported to Port Lucaya Marketplace for some shopping before returning to your ship. Note: Sunscreen and insect repellent is recommended.

Wonderful Excursion
Had a great introduction to the Bahamas on this excursion. Bus tour was very informative. Botanical garden was very serene. The tour guide in the Grove was such a pleasant speaker to listen to. What a great way to start a holiday in the sun.

My family decided to go on this excursion because we wanted something low key. Our children are both college aged, and they enjoyed this excursion! This was the perfect excursion for our family, especially on a warmer Bahamas day!
As the reviews say, when you get off the ship you are met by your tour guide "Sweet Pea," on an air-conditioned motor coach bus. He shows you around the more industrial part of the island, but has a lot of interesting stories and fun facts. He definitely knows the island well, and likes to share his personal testimonies often. The ride to the Gardens is about 30-45 minutes.
At the Gardens, you are given a hour tour, and have another hour to walk the Gardens by yourself. My family went to the Cafe and got a couple snacks (their food is kind of pricey, but what do you expect?), and walked through all the shops located in the Gardens. There is also a cool labyrinth that you can walk! Spending that hour was easy!
Then, "Sweet Pea" drives you from the Gardens to a retail area, where you have about an hour to shop around at the local shops. We could have done without this part, but it was a nice day out, so walking through stores was nice. You might want to pack your own snacks/lunch, because we didn't eat lunch until around 3pm when we got back to the ship!
All in all, I would definitely recommend this excursion for those of you looking for low key, but definitely interesting and fun excursion on the Grand Bahamas Island!

If you do not want to snorkel, or lay on a beach but instead enjoy a beautiful garden, get a short tour of the area, and have time to shop this is perfect. My mom isn't able to be in the sun for long periods of time & she was able to get in shade when she needed to. The garden is beautiful with gorgeous flowers/plants/birds/butterflies, the staff was great & the the stops during the walking tour didn't get too long or boring. Overall I enjoyed this excursion very much since it was something she could do & enjoy as well. I plan on going back on a cruise later this year with my husband so at that time we will see the beaches, etc,.
