Lucayan National Park Kayak Experience

Lucayan Park encompasses 40 acres of mangrove swamps, sand dunes, broad beaches, limestone caves and a pine and palm forest. You'll kayak in a protected creek through a mangrove forest for approximately 90 minutes and venture on a guided 1/4-mile, one-hour nature walk through Lucayan National Park. Visit caves and learn about the history of the original Bahamian people. Enjoy a swim and light lunch under shelter at beautiful Gold Rock Beach. Note: Participants must be at least 6 years of age and weigh no more than 300 lbs. Two-person kayaks are used. Please wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. Protected footwear such as tennis shoes are highly recommended, no flip-flops please. Water-safe storage bags are provided so you may bring your camera. Lunch consists of do-it-yourself deli sandwiches, fruit, cookies, lemonade and water. Bring water and sun protection. Guests have the option to visit the Caves or stay at Gold Rock Beach. Guests must sign a waiver release form.

Would not do again
The kayaking was along mangrove trees and not much else. At some places you could only use one end of your paddle because the trees were so close. If you have kayaked much this is not for you. The pace was too slow. The lunch was okay on a private beach. It was about a 40 minute bus ride out to the park.

Fantastic excursion
This excursion was absolutely fantastic. I would have to say that this excursion "made my trip". My husband and I have never kayaked before but it was something I have always wanted to do. SOOO glad that we did this. there was about a 45 minute drive and on the way there, Ben did an excellent job talking about the history of the island,etc... We then arrived and kayaked through the mangrove forest. They taught us some basic lessons before we started. The lessons were helpful and sufficient. After the kayaking we went to gold rock beach. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! They had a lunch, but we figured we'd rather spend time on the beach than eat because we knew there would be plenty of food on the cruise boat when we got back. ;) After an hour or so on the beach, we toured the island and found out so much about the area from our guide. We then went and looked at the under water cave system. (hint..) I should have taken a picture of Ben with the National Park sign that said "Ben's caves". So interesting. I have to say, this was well worth it, I would do it again if I had the chance to. Another hint.. use the bathroom when they stop. :) GREAT EXCURSION

Lot of variety for one excursion
This was such a wonderful day! We learned about the history of the island while driving to the caves. Then during a short nature walk, the guide pointed out various plant life that is unique to the Bahamas. The kayaking was very enjoyable, but some of the first timers had difficulty navigating the tight turns. Golden Rock beach was spectacularly beautiful and mostly deserted!
** *I would highly recommend wearing your swimsuit with shorts, a Tshirt, and water shoes as there are limited changing facilities. Also don't forget a bottle of sunscreen and a hat because it's a long day in the sun!***

Fabulous Kayaking!
The two of us chose the Kayak Experience at Lucayan National Park; Ben was leader for our small group of 9 -- a perfect size so we could all see and hear well. We began by exploring some of the caves/caverns, then drove on to our kayak adventure, followed by lunch on the beach. Then a stroll through the trees, shrubs and plants. A fabulous day for us all!
Ben obviously loves what he does and was happy to be asked questions when we wanted more detail/information. He had a delightfully pointed sense of humor which we appreciated. His pride in the park was clear to see. He was a good instructor as well, clear directions given concisely, ready to review and answer questions.
We were very comfortable with Ben and our kayak team which covered a wide spread of ages, demographics and interests. We'd be happy to do this again and are glad to recommend it!

Our guide, "Uncle Chad" was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the island, its ecosystems and the Lucayan Park. The kayaking was a bit of the challenge for first timers but still manageable. Gold Rock Beach and the nature preserve was incredible. The highlight of this tour was truly the guide, Chad. We were educated, entertained by his comedy and treated like family for the entire day. We could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Chad!

Guide was awesome
Our guide Jeff was great. Clearly took pride in his work and made an effort to get to know those in our paddle group.
