Scootcoupe Caribbean Joyride

Get ready for a one-of-a-kind adventure as you drive a ScootCoupe two-person, three-wheel scooter that looks like a miniature convertible car. Your professional, English-speaking guide will provide driving instruction and helmets before you head out on the open road. Join the caravan and discover the island of Cozumel on a scenic joyride like no other. You'll make a complete circle around the island's coastal roads starting the eastern shore where you'll head out of town and into the booming hotel district. Pass the southern tip of the island and get ready to experience the beauty of Cozumel's western coast. This undeveloped coastline offers stunning views of rock formations, white-sand beaches, blue-green waters and jungle vegetation. Feel the wind in your hair and sun on your skin as you drive along the length of the island among her amazing natural terrains. We'll stop at a beach club where you'll have free time to relax and enjoy the beach. Then it's back to your ScootCoupe to complete your circle around the island. Park your scooters in downtown San Miguel (Cozumel's only town) where your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the town square. Learn about the history, culture and people of the island as well as its present place as the number one cruise ship port in the world. After your walking tour you'll have free time for shopping and exploration. When time is up you may either drive your ScootCoupe back to your ship's pier or you can choose to stay in downtown and make your own way back to your ship. Note: Participants must be at least 12 years of age and must be at least 21 years of age to drive and provide a valid driver's license. This tour is not recommended for those with previous back or neck injuries or pregnant woman. Rate is per ScootCoupe.

Don't bother
I read about this and thought that it would be so exciting. It turns out that you really don't do much riding and the cars are not in very good condition. You don't get to ride around the island. You get a very short ride to a spot that you can swim and then you ride to a place to shop. The shopping is not an enjoyable experience because the shop workers are all over you to make a purchase. The whole trip is way over priced and the guide will insult you if the tip is not enough. I definitely would not recommend this excursion.

Contradictory Descriptions
The scooter coups were fun. We did enjoy ourselves. However, the internet description is completely different than the description handed out on the ship. We did not go around the island, but went north to a resort for a beach break, then back to town for a tequila tasting, and then a walk around the downtown area before going back to the pier.

Enjoyable, but a problem with diesel smell
This excursion was enjoyable as the guide was alot of fun, and we did get to see some of the sights in Cozumel - Playa Azul beach resort for lunch, a recreation of the mayan ruin (toursit site), and shopping. One huge downside for me is that my clothing smells horribly of diesel fuel, and I am still attempting to remove the odor. I do not recommend for individuals that have any sort of mobility issue; the coupe is rather small and does require some flexibility/agility to get in and out of.

don't waste your money
We have the smiling photo they took of us but the excursion wasn't what they described. Exploring the island...turned into a noisy ride on poorly maintained 3 wheeled coups. Our guide took us up and back two roads. He took us by the Naval Air Station and stopped by the Presidents home that is located on the coastal road that runs out of town. We stop half way back on the second road to go to the beach,( which I must admit had good snorkeling). The free drink was a bottled water. The professional? guided tour was a young man that spoke very broken English and tried hard to get us to shop at the cheapest flea market area of Cozumel that was filled with hard sell merchants that constantly bug you to come in and look and try on what they have. I hate being pressured to buy. I feel quilty enough seeing how some of the islanders live let alone having to constantly fend off poor people just trying to make a living. Not a good experience and the worst excursion we've ever been on.

This excursion was one of the highlights of my trip! The guides were friendly, funny and informative. You drive your Scootcoupe around most of the island, so you really get to see a lot. You start out by visiting a tourist center with gifts and history about the island. Then you head to the ocean where you get about an hour on the beach with hammocks - there is a pool, food and drinks too. Then you make one final scenic stop for a photo op before heading back to the Pier.
The Scoutcoupes are driven like a scooter - the power is in the handles as well as the brakes. it is automatic though - so it was very easy (and I have never driven anything you didn't accelerate/brake with your feet). I was laughing almost the whole time.
We had a bit of wind while we were driving by the beach - it can blow you around a bit, but I got a kick out of it!
