So Much Fun!
When my friend suggested we choose this I reluctantly agreed. It turned out to be the best of the excursions! Everyone there agreed that it was the most fun they had thus far. Chef Luis was a blast (I got into a little trouble - the unlimited drinks seemed to make me a bit chatty). We laughed during the preparation and once we sat down to eat we were lucky enough to thoroughly enjoy the conversation with our table mates. We laughed and traded stories and just had a wonderful time. The food was fun to make and delicious and the class was completely enjoyable. I would recommend this to anyone.

Mexician Cookin Class
Two us us from our group decided to do this tour and were completely happy with our experience. We were able to take photos, videos and the drinks kept coming. The food was completely wonderful. I recommend this to anyone who wishes to make a real Mexician dish. Something you will NOT get in the USA. Loved it! Oscar was funny and delightful.

This was the main excursion my husband wanted to do while on our cruise and it was really fun. The bus picked us up close to the pier and took us to Playa Mia where we were oriented and then escorted to a large learning kitchen. The group was organized into foursomes and since we were travelling with friends, the four of us gathered around a tabletop kitchen prepared for our cooking. We started with a dessert of plantains, then made a shrimp appetizer, and finished with a nice piece of fish. Our chef, Oscar, guided us through the simple recipes while we worked (and drank) together to make our lunch. When we finished cooking we went upstairs where we enjoyed our meal, which was delicious (of course, because we cooked it!). After eating we were given free time to explore and enjoy Playa Mia but because the cooking class took so long, there was little time for anything other than a quick walk on the pier and one more margarita. All in all it was really fun, especially because Oscar was so engaging. It's not your regular beach outing, but really was nice.

More fun than expected
This was more fun than we even expected. It was one of our favorites of the trip. The resort was pristine and the class was so much fun. The chef was really energetic and very informative. The menu was well chosen, anyone could do it, but it wasn't too easy. The class was a great length and moved along quickly. The drinks were flowing, open bar was totally open bar. After there was about an hour at the beach. That part seemed quick, but it was such a fun day, the resort was beautiful, and the beach area was prefect. The same resort is for the beach break if not everyone wants to do the cooking class. We thought it was worth every penny.

Great time with Chef Luis
This excursion was so much fun. We took taxis to Playa Mia where we were taken to the cooking stations and met Chef Luis and his assistants. We were assigned working stations of 4 persons each. We were given chef hats, hair nets, and aprons. Drink orders were taken and the drinks kept coming. The assistants made sure each cooking station had all necessary cooking ingredients to keep the experience moving quickly. We made dessert first...plantines with chocolate sauce. We learned to dress our plate for presentation. There were many creative plates. Next we made our entree. Our fish was so fresh and the recipe was delicious. Next we prepared the shrimp sope appetizer. Chef Luis was so clear with his instructions and made us feel like real chefs. He was fun and kept the time moving. Time passed quickly and in no time we were ready to eat our delicious meal. We went upstairs to the dining area with a great view of the Caribbean. All our plates were presented to us because we had added our names to our plates when we learned to decorate our plates. After our meal we had time to spend freely, and drinks were still served to us. People could relax under a large pavilion or swim in the beautiful water. Chef Luis and his staff made our experience so much fun and I would enjoyed this excursion again. One thing I would like to add is that during the cooking station time you stand the entire time. I had read this in another review, and we took a small folding chair for my husband so that he could take breaks from all the stress on his knees. It worked great and made his experience so much more enjoyable.

Best Excursion Ever

When my wife and I decided to go on a cruise we based our whole cruise around this excursion. It didn't disappoint!
The drive to Playa Mia might have been 10min, on a very nice bus, with a friendly and funny driver. Lots to see along the way.
When you get to Workshop, Chef Luis introduces him and his staff, then asks what everyone is drinking, and they NEVER stopped.
The cooking was a ton of fun. We made an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. They are very knowledgeable and make it pretty easy and fun for everyone.
That lasted for an hour or so, then you get to eat your own cooking. The food was extremely good. As was the drinks.
After we were done eating we headed for the beach which was right outside. It was a large beach with lots of room and chairs to lay out on. The water was great the beach was clean and the drinks were plentiful.
(Of course there is non-alcoholic drinks available).
the whole day was around 6hrs.
It was the best excursion we've been on, and will do it again.

A truly wonderful day, led by the chef and his staff. You are taking step by step cooking a 3 course meal, including the proper plating of your dish . Afterward you are taking to the dining to enjoy your work. Their are plenty of laughs and margaritas along the way. When finshed you can enjoy the rest of the resort

Not Worth It
Despite the other reviews, this excursion is not worth the time or money. While you get unlimited drinks, you DO NOT get the unlimited buffet as others stated in their reviews. You "prepare" an appetizer, dessert and entree and then they cook it and you eat it. Nothing fancy or really special; just a piece of grouper, some plantains and a few shrimp in a puff pastry. It is really not a Mexican cooking experience.

BEST EXCURSION EVER
Chef Luis is fantastic!! His knowledge and cooking skills are worth the trip! He makes the whole workshop interesting and fun! Chef Luis provides everyone with a copy of his recipes that he prepared in the workshop. We have certainly benefited from these when we get home and cook. We have been on this excursion twice and have already booked this excursion for our next cruise. The drinks come freely and frequently, whether you drink beer, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks or water. The time at the beach after the workshop is fun. This excursion is worth the time and money. It certainly is the Best Excursion that we have ever taken!

Even if you don't like to cook, you'll love this!!
I will start by saying that my Mom was with me, but she HATES to cook. But, she even had a blast doing this!! You don't have to be a "good" cook or even have any knowledge--they help you every step of the way. It's really fun & the drinks flow (shots of tequila, margaritas, beer, pina coladas, etc). After the cooking is done, staying on the rest of the resort is really nice. Free drinks continue to flow! The beach is nice & the water is pretty. We kayaked around & bounced on the trampoline for a while! We didn't return to the ship w/our group, though. We decided to stay at the resort longer, & that was fine (the free drinks continue!!). We took a taxi back to the port (it was about $15, I think) so that we could maximize our time there. I would strongly suggest that!

I enjoy cooking and love Mexican cuisine, so this excursion was right up my alley. The class itself was fun, entertaining and educational. Louis, the chef who is pictured, is awesome. He is very enthusiastic, funny, knowledgeable and friendly and, in my opinion, is the reason this excursion will be so memorable. The food you prepare is simple to make and is outstanding to eat. They are not shy or skimpy when it comes to the free drinks, unlike other resorts that claim to have an open bar. Playa Mia is a nice resort with plenty of activities to enjoy after the class. The beach is nice with plenty of seating. There is also a large covered pavilion with shaded tables if you need to get out of the sun. There are a few shops and play areas for children and numerous other areas and activities that we did not explore. I would recommend this excursion to anyone who enjoys preparing and eating good food and having a good time while doing it.

Great fun!
Our family (two teenage girls, wife and myself) all enjoyed this excurision. The facilities were excellent, both for the preparation of the meal and enjoyment of it afterward. The chef, Luis, was a lot of fun, also providing general cooking tips along the way. He also made sure the liquid refreshments were always available! The time for the use of the water park afterward was nice, just wish it had been longer!

Mexican Cuisine
This was a great excursion and well worth the money. Chef Luis was very entertaining and the entire experience very enjoyable. We were taken on a short cab ride to Playa Mia which is the beach where we were able to spend about two hours lying out, swimming or taking advantage of the waters sports. Then we were taken to the kitchen where we were given a chef's hat, apron and all the cooking utensils. They make it very easy for you by providing all the food, already cut, chopped and ready to be prepared for your three course meal. The food was very good and my cup of rum punch never went empty as they kept bringing more and more. I would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone who enjoys cooking, likes to laugh and have a good time.

Best excursion of the trip
Chef Luis and his assistants made this excursion the best we've experienced. We've been on many cruises throughout the Caribbean, and this was the most fun. Very interactive, cooking wasn't difficult, but it was a lot of fun. Drinks flowed (Playa Mia offers unlimited drinks with admission...a much needed perk from being charged onboard!) Chef Luis was awesome!
After you finish creating your meal, you go upstairs in an air-conditioned room to enjoy your creation. After, we had about an hour to enjoy the beach or pool prior to getting back to the pier.
Would 100% recommend this to anyone...my husband and I had a great time.

Our experience with Chef Luis was awesome! From the time we stepped into the kitchen we knew we had made the right choice. The chef and his staff were friendly, fun and in my case very patient (haha). After preparing we were taken to an air-conditioned dining room and then had about an hour and a half to enjoy the beach. I think another hour before heading back to port would have been appropriate. Had we of stayed longer, the cab ride back to the port would have cost $16.00
