Tequila & Tacos – A Mexican Experience

Have you ever wanted to learn the real history about Mexico and Tequila? This is your chance. A guided tour through Discover Mexico Park will show you all the marvels of this country and with emphasis on Tequila. Tequila is the name of a valley in the State of Jalisco where this potent potable has been made for centuries. Much like a fine single-malt scotch, there are Tequilas of surpassing quality that are to be similarly sipped and savored and the flavors are every bit as subtle and complex. You'll sample a Blanco, a Reposado, and an Añejo (aged), as well as a Tequila cream and Tequila liquor; even their bottles are often lovely works of art. Delight yourself with a sampling of these very best and very different Tequilas while being given a detailed tour of the preparation of the most famous drink in Mexico. You will come back an expert on the subject. Note: Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Light Mexican lunch is included.

Thoroughly Enjoyed!
We went on this delightful excursion in April, 2013 and really enjoyed it. Our Guide, Maria, was great. She shared her wealth of information on all of the stops along the tour and of the Park. The tequila tasting was very educational and there was no pressure to purchase anything. The tacos lunch exceeded our expectations. And also the Margaritas as well as the Corona Beer that went with the tour.

Enjoyable tour with Maria as our guide. She was very knowledgeable and communicated well. We liked the cultural overview provided - the artwork was especially wonderful. The tasting was very informative and our tasting leader Redolfo was knowledgeable and entertaining. Lunch was good - especially liked the poblanos and onions in cream sauce - yum!

Loads of Fun
Tan was an excellent guide, he was fun and knowledgeable. The musuem portion of the trip was ok, but he kept it interesting. The meal was very good and of course the tequila was even better. You got plenty to drink and it turned out to be an all you can eat event. A good presentation on the history and making of tequila and they are right that the food cooked in clay pots and on clay surfaces makes a difference, but then again after all the tequila did it matter how they cooked the food?? It also helped that there was a good friendly group on this excursion that made it all the more fun.

Not what expected
After two hours into this three hour tour we still hadn't heard a thing about tequila. Turns out that the first part is going thru a muesum of Mexican art and diorama of Mayan and Aztecs ruins. Not bad but not what expected or in the tour description. The tequila session was a bit rushed as was the lunch. You could get as many tacos as you want but not so with drinks. You had to keep asking to get the drinks you were told you were suppose to get. Also, there is a real hard push here to sell you various things. Got a bit annoying. Go buy yourseld a bottle of tequlia instead of taking this tour.

I love Tequila so this was a great tour for me. Our tour guide was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about Mexico and about Tequila. We tried three different kinds of tequila and learned how to make tequila from the harvest of the agave plant to the bottling of tequila. The tacos at the end were very good. When you first enter the building you watch a short film and than in another room we saw hand made art. Overall this was a great tour.

Educational
It was a very educational tour. Ruy our guide was excellent. He has a heavy accent but with a little spanish background he was easy to understand. It's not for kids because of the tequila tasting. I left knowing alot more about the difference between an excellent tequila and a "rough" one. I even have the certificate to prove it. We toured the museum first, the gardens, then the tasting. We followed with some authentic mexican food that was delish!!
They have a grand finale which I won't spoil for you. Unique gifts in the museum gift shop. Good value for the money.

Educational and Fun
I love tequila so this was an exciting tour for me. I have always wanted to learn about the proper way to enjoy the drink so the history and the instruction on how to examine the aroma, body, and taste was excellent. Our narrator was interesting and knew a lot about the tequila and its production and history. The lunch that was included was good, some tacos, which had an authentic Mexican feel to them. The gift shop sold some of the tequila that was available during the tasting and there were some other random things in the gift shop as well. Overall, I really enjoyed the tour and I know much more about how to enjoy tequila the "civilized" way!
