Dune Buggy Safari & Beach

Discover Costa Maya on a custom-made Dune Buggy just as Joe-cool used in the late 60's. These brand new beach buggies are the best way to experience Costa Maya as you drive down the coastline to your beach getaway. Your experienced guides will give a safety briefing before jumping into your buggy. Then, your first stop will be at the Fisherman's village where everyone will stare as you cruise on by. Keep your eyes open for the rare birds and resident iguanas. Once you go off-road you'll end at a secluded beach. Kick back on a hammock, enjoy a complimentary snack and soft drink, go for a swim in the Caribbean Sea, play a game of beach volleyball, take in the rays or stroll down the virgin beach. After the beach, it is time to head on home so get ready to drive back. Note: Participants must be at least 21 years of age and present a valid driver's license to drive. All Buggies are stick shift. This tour is not recommended for pregnant women or guests with heart, respiratory or back conditions. Vehicles accommodate up to four participants and you may be paired up with others.

Awesom
Dune buggys are old and some stall out but there's always one of the crew to swap out the one that doesn't work. Very safe, Very Fun. The destination is a secuded beach where we were served some awesome snacks. Sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, take a dip, and just relax. The trip back went through what seemed to be a local neighborhood, interesting to see how they live...friendly people, just beware the kids will beg for money.

We had a blast
This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Adrian and Omar were great!
It had been a few years since I had driven a manual but the dune buggy preformed well. The scenery was amazing and the breeze helped keep the heat at bay. They assign four to a buggy so we shared with two other people. I decided to drive out there and one of them back.
Stop 1 was the "PeePee" stop. You arent there very long but it is a nice spot to use the bathrooms and pick up a few souvenirs or a drink ;)
The drive from stop 1 to 2 is really about 45 minutes but you get to see a lot of great scenery. I would recommend having some sunscreen.
Stop 2 is where you stay for about an hour. They have some refreshing food out for you (e.g. watermelon and chips and salsa). You can buy some tacos if you want for $2 a piece and I would definitely recommend it. The shrimp tacos are amazing. Facilities at this stop were clean and stocked. The beach is very beautiful and a great place to sit back and have a drink.
On the way back the worst thing happened, our buggy broke down. We pulled over and there was immediately someone there to help. They looked at the problem and it wouldnt be a quick fix so they told us to get in the other buggy and off we went again. Less than 5 minutes. It was so short I almost forgot to put how fast they fixed our problem and sent us on our way. We joined the pack again like nothing happened. There is nothing to worry about.
If you are looking for a nice drive and relaxing day then be sure to book this!

Very fun and the beach was amazing
You do have to know how to drive stick. I know the basics, but I had trouble with these, these are very basic and is just a stick out of the ground, with very hard to press brake and clutch. We wound up riding with the guide, who was super knowledgeable and kind! We stopped at a gift shop and were able to purchase drinks. We than continued our trip, we had a little bit of rain, but not much (the dune buggies do not have tops, so you will get wet if it rains). We got to the beach and they had refried beans, salsa, fruit and chips and two free sodas (or bottled water), the food was delicious and the free drinks were nice! The beach was gorgeous and was secluded, so it was just you and the group. Very calm and beautiful. The water was crystal clear and the sand was white. It was a beautiful day. In the end the beach and food was amazing, the guides were super kind and fun (told a lot of great stories and jokes), we had a great time and highly recommend this for people looking for a fun adventure and the an amazing beach!!!

DUNE BUGGIES!
We decided to take dune buggies to a private beach area. We were not disappointed! Omar and Adrian were our guides, we drove to a small area for sovenirs and then off to a beautiful beach area - quite a way. The water was clear and warm and the restaurant very hospitable. I enjoyed it a lot. We learned a lot as well, all about the types of fish, conchs, Mayan telephones. We had a great time. would recommend!

Omar and Adrian were our guides, and they are awesome. You start out (4ppl) to a Buggy and drive down through town to a bathroom./shopping break. The people at this store are too pushy for my taste, but the drinks at the bar were awesome. Next you drive the highway awhile until you get to a dirt road. Most of the drive is not incredibly exciting and there isn't much of view other than the trees. The dirt road was fun because it had just rained and there were alot of puddles in the potholes. You arrive at a small resort with a private beach and have snacks (fresh fruit, chips and homemade salsa) Soda and water are also provided. The beach was beautiful, lots of palm trees, beach chairs and hammocks. However the sand fleas were rampant. The water was warm and beautiful and great for a short swim. Returning back was pretty much the same as the drive over.

Over rated
Buggies were NOT brand new. None of the dials worked, no gas pedal, no cushions on seats. First stop was very close to starting point offering nothing of interest. Driving to secluded beach was a long highway drive not jungle or forest. Beach was very dirty and snacks were lacking. On way back to port we traveled on a pot hole filled dirt road with nothing to see but a few iguanas on the tops of a couple of walls protecting existing homes along the route. Guides were best part of excursion.

This was a great excursion. We had a lot of fun and the tour guides were awesome (Adrian and Omar)! We got to see a lot of the country side and we even visited a small fishing village.
We were glad that we got off the ship early, so that we could visit the port a bit. There's a pool and swim-up bar at the port, so be sure to bring your bathing suit.

We booked this excursion in December 2011. Omar and Adrain were great guides! Fun trip through a small town and back roads to the private beach area. Private beach area was nice, clean and very relaxing! Would certainly recommend this trip if you want to get off the beaten path and spend a little time in a quiet location. Trip was fun and again, the guides were GREAT!

Fun get away
Great day at a beautiful secluded beach after a fun drive in a VW powered dune buggy. This is a great way to have some time away from the crowds. The stop at Castillo Hotel was a step back to a peaceful, quiet part of the country. Adrian and Omar were the best! Lots to see while driving your buggy - tropical birds, iguanas, huge spiders, interesting scenery, friendly locals. Bring lots of bug spray!
