Catamaran Cruise & Snorkel

Enjoy your day in Costa Maya sailing and snorkeling in the Caribbean waters. Your bilingual guides will meet you at the pier and accompany you to the catamaran waiting at the Fisherman's Pier. Along the way your guides will inform you of the safety procedures, so you may have the most adventurous time, while under the watchful eye of PADI certified rescue diver guides. You'll wear a proper life vest for your safety. Upon arrival, dive into the Caribbean waters to explore the colorful undersea life. You'll see jacks, snappers, colorful angelfish or queen triggerfish abound. A lazy turtle or curious grouper are not rare to find. This is the right way to start your Costa Maya exploration. After an approximate 45 minutes of snorkeling, return to your catamaran and sail back along the scenic coast. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age. This tour is not suitable for pregnant women, persons with back or neck injuries. Strict health restrictions apply for snorkeling activity. At the end of the tour you'll have the opportunity to be dropped off in town or return directly to your ship. If staying in town, the return trip back to the ship is on your own.

Great snorkeling
We were divided into beginning, intermediate, and advanced snorkeling groups, which accommodated all levels of skill. We saw many fish, different corals, and a sea turtle.

Excellent Crew
We have done this catamaran twice, with the same crew, and they actually remembered us from a year ago. The snorkeling is very good, especially if not too choppy due to wind. They will split you up in groups, if someone is not a very good swimmer or a novice snorkeler. The crew staff are very nice, and really want you to have a good snorkel experience. They are friendly and funny, but also do take care of you and are safety conscious. Louise, Ray, and the Catamaran Captain were great!
Highly Recommend and Give Them a Good Tip!

Not for beginners
Long wait in sun on hot concret before long march to comfortable full size bus for ride to a small dock. Medium size boat was overcrowded, not enough seats for everyone. Guides very friendly and helpful. Onboard bathrooms primitive. No lockers. Snorkel gear provided. Snorkel groups too crowded, people bumping into me a lot. No lockers. Peddlers on dock trying to sell beads and purses when we walked back to the bus. Water was deep and coral chanels difficult to navigate. Overall OK for intermediate to advanced snorkelers and nice boat ride.

GREAT TIME
I have been snorkeling for 15 years and this excursion has been the best snorkeling excursion i have ever been on. Started out great as they split you up by ability. So the most advanced (the group I was in) got into the water first. We then swam quite a ways from the catamaran. The snorkel guide let us around through the reef. He pointed out animals to us, like lobster and squid. He also would dive down and pick up conch. But he didn't keep our group all corralled together, I never felt like it was crowded. Also since we were aways from the catamaran, one of the catamaran crew took out a small inflatable motorized boat was driving around by our group. That was nice to know they cared that much about safety. Again, this is the best snorkel excursion I have ever been on. Great job!

too many people
After a 40 minute boat ride to the reef, we separated into 3 groups, beginners, intermediates and expert. Unfortunately there were so many people, my family was getting pushed and kicked, actually pushed into the coral. The snorkelling as well was probably the poorest on this cruise but again I think unless you were in the expert, you didn't see as much. I wouldn't do it again. I have been on quite a few snorkelling excursions and this was the least enjoyable.

Very safe and well done excursion, split everyone up based upon swimming skills. Our guide on several times swam to the bottom and picked up various sea creatures to show us up close.
A lot of fun!

Great snorkel excursion for all abilities
This is a great excursion for snorkelers of all abilities. The water was very clear – we had 75 feet of visibility. Many types of healthy and beautiful coral composed a large reef. The warm water was about ten feet deep under the boat. The water was about thirty feet deep outside the reef. We saw many colorful fish on the reef. The friendly and helpful crew divided us into beginner, intermediate and advanced snorkelers. Different instructors took out each group. Two instructors took out the advanced group we were in. One instructor led us over the reef and into deeper water. The second instructor brought up the rear and watched for ‘stragglers’ – a good safety procedure. They did a great job protecting the reef. They asked us not to touch the coral and not to stand on the coral at one shallow point. This eco-consciousness should be rewarded because it is easy to damage the coral polyps. The equipment was fine. They use a shorter flipper that makes climbing stairs easier and is easier on the shallow parts of the reef, but doesn’t deliver as much power as a full size flipper. No one seemed to have a power problem with the smaller fins. We snorkeled for almost an hour. We had a fifteen minute bus ride to the boat. We had a forty-five minute boat ride to the dive site. This is an excellent snorkel trip and a particularly good excursion for new snorkelers because they will have their own group.

We did it!
I was pretty apprehensive about snorkeling just because I've never done it before. The staff on this excursion, though, is used to beginners. They were extremely helpful & we had a great time. I felt perfectly safe & definitely plan on snorkeling on my next cruise.
