Exclusive Rome & The Vatican

On this tour you'll be in smaller groups with exclusive escorts and guides. Although a quick pace and substantial amount of walking is required, your day will be extremely rewarding. In the morning, enjoy an orientation drive through the Eternal City; you'll pass the Roman Forum, the Arch of Constantine and the famed Colosseum. If time permits, you may explore on your own. Lunch will be held in a first-class restaurant after which you'll continue to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, boasting Michelangelo's magnificent ceiling. You'll gaze in awe at Piazza San Pietro, one of the world's most beautiful squares that faces the largest church in the world, St. Peter's. Some of its fabulous treasures will be shown to you by your guide during a brief visit. Note: Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately. No bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. Your guide will join you in Rome, however you'll have an escort with you throughout the day. Order of sights may vary. The Vatican will be closed on May 1st, 2012, August 5th, 2012, August 15th, 2012, and September 16th, 2012; this tour is not available for the Norwegian Epic August 12th, 2012 sailing, nor for the Norwegian Spirit April 28th, 2012, August 2nd, 2012, or September 7th, 2012 sailings. AVAILABLE FOR ALL NORWEGIAN SPIRIT SAILINGS AND ON BARCELONA TO BARCELONA NORWEGIAN EPIC SAILINGS ONLY.

Worth it!
This is a long day and well worth the cost. We saw almost every highlight in Rome in one day. Guide was extremely knowledgeable of the sites, history and was able to walk us right into the Colloseum, past the lines! Be prepared to walk and be prepared for the heat.

Don't waste your money!!
There are a lot of reviews that give high marks for this excursion, and I tend to believe that most of these are based on the sights the people saw, not the actual tour. Rome is an amazing place and I would encourage everyone to experience it. But the $800 that my wife and I spent on this excursion was a complete waste of money. Here's our story...
The tour description says you will go past the Colosseum and time permitting you will get to explore. Well time must have permitted alright because we spent an hour there. We were dropped off and able to walk around the area and were then to meet up and continue on with our day. After the 13 people in our tour group collected ourselves our tour guides were no where to be found. After some searching we found them lounging away from where we were to meet. A complete waste of my time and money! This of course meant that the rest of our day was completely rushed.
At lunch I was pleasantly surprised. We had a great meal at a very quaint restaurant in the heart of Rome. Unfortunately the afternoon went back to the bad.
We made our way to the Vatican and picked up our $15 dollar tickets from will call. (There were no lines to bypass by the way). We then embarked on what amounted to be an art history tour as our tour guide rambled on for another hour about the various paintings and statues we were about to see, something that no one in our tour group was caring to listen to. After the art lesson we were completely rushed making our way through all the vatican museums. We spent about 10 minutes in St. Peter's Basilica and had to walk right past Piazza San Pietro without stopping and proceeded to a non vatican souvenir shop.
In all we made 4 stops on our tour. The Colosseum, a restaurant, The Vatican, and a gas station/mini mart. I'm not sure which part of that is the "exclusive" part but after talking to others on our cruise who went out and discovered Rome on their own, I can tell you that you'd be better served doing the same.
I really hope this review gets posted and read by Norwegian Cruise Lines. I feel completely ripped off and taken advantage of. In all the guides were awful and the tour was lousy. I know that everyone else on our tour felt the same way, as we were all griping about it on the bus ride to the ship. I rate it all poor with the exception of "Historical and Cultural". Rome and the Vatican are must see's but this tour just isn't the way to see them.

You get what you pay for
This tour was the highlight of our cruise. We were in a group of sixteen on a big bus so everyone had more than enough room. Tour starts a Colosseum. Once in Rome you pick up a guide who was excellent. Because you are a tour group, you avoid lines as you enter the Vatican museum, Sistine chapel and St Peters. Tour involved a lot of walking but it was worth every penny we spent.
