Choose Another Rome Tour
Consider choosing another tour...Bus was 40 minutes late to leave port due to late shipmates; waited an hour for a restroom at the rest stop; walking tour of ruins was excellent; lunch was exceptional; rushed through the Basilica; could have seen the Sistine Chapel had the time been managed appropriately. Extremely disappointed with this tour compared to all other tours in each of the ports.

First of all, Rome is about an hour and a half drive one way from the port city of Civitavecchia so a good portion of the tour is just traveling. If I had known this before-hand I would have picked a longer tour to include more sites. Having said that the tour was very nice. When we get into Rome we first took a driving tour of some sites. Then is the stop at the Colosseum which was absolutely amazing, definitely the best part of the tour. We did not get to go inside because it was not included in this tour and you don't have any free time here if that's what you'd like to do. After the Colosseum we walked over to the Roman Forum. After this we got back on our bus and taken to a restaurant for lunch (included in the price). The meal included free wine but the restaurant picks what food to give you. A couple at our table decided to buy their own pizza so this is an option if you're not happy with the meal provided. There's also a free bathroom here. After lunch we got back on the bus and traveled to the Vatican. Based on the description of this tour I was under the impression that you only had to wear the "appropriate clothing" if you choose to go inside the church. Going into the church is actually part of the tour and just going into the square requires you to cover your shoulders and knees. Luckily we already were wearing appropriate clothing but if you're not, you have to buy a scarf or something to cover yourself. The church was beautiful and you can take pictures inside. When we left we had about 15 minutes at a store to buy souvenirs but it was all religious souvenirs. I was disappointed that this was the only option to buy anything. Overall the tour was nice but limited. If given the chance to go again, I would pick a longer tour that includes more stops since about 3 hours of the tour is just driving to and from Rome.
