Jungle Resort Horseback Safari

Enjoy an hour of fun-filled excitement as you discover the Belizean tropical forest by horseback. The trail winds through a gallery of royal palms as parrots nesting up near the fronds call out across the forest, the harsh sound temporarily obliterating the sounds of other forest birds. In the high canopy of intertwining branches of guanacaste trees, bullet trees, tarpon blossom and bukut tees, one or more troops of black howler monkeys might fill the air with their deep resonating roars, defining their territory while sunning iguanas lazily and nonchalantly gaze across the river to treetops filled with more iguanas. After your ride, kick off your shoes and relax in a hammock in the shade of a buttonwood tree. At your leisure, enjoy a delicious truly Belizean lunch prepared just for you served buffet style. If relaxing is not for you, then learn about the many uses of native plants on Ixchel's walk, a self-guided medicinal/botanical trail, or stroll along a winding pathway in the Wild Wings Butterfly House. Here you'll, learn about the intricate lives of native Central American butterflies or you can put in a few swings at the golf driving range. Note: Participants must be at least 12 years of age and weigh no more than 250 lbs. Approximate horse riding time is one hour. Pregnant women are prohibited from horseback riding. Wear long sleeve shirt, long pants and closed-toe shoes. Bring swimsuit, sunglasses, hat, towel, sunscreen, insect repellant. Tour might occur in reverse.

Great Ride
My family of 4 took the bacab horseback ride in Belize. You have to tender in Belize so be sure to schedule not before 11:00. We took a 45 minute bus ride to the ranch. The bus waits for other cruise ship passengers. At the facility, we paid for lockers to store our backpacks in. They are pretty large and hold 2 backpacks. You give them a deposit and it is refunded after you return the key. On the trail we saw howler monkeys and iguanas. They let you go fast if you want to. The lunch is very good (rice and beans and chicken. The bar is excellent. Nothing like a cold beer after a hot ride.

MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD
Long bus ride on full size bus, airconditioner did not work on the return trip, got very hot. Well trained calm horses. Very large group of riders. Helmets available, but we had to ask to use a helmet. Horses knee deep in mud most of the ride. Mud slung up to riders shoulders. DELICIOUS lunch included in ticket price. Pool looked nice, but not much time after lunch to use the pool. Lockers provided with refundable deposit if you don't lose the key. Nice and clean bathrooms and changing rooms. Would have liked bottled water included in the ticket price, but was extra charge. They give your chage in belizean money. Did not hear about the butterfly farm until back on the bus, so missed out on the butterflies. Did not see any monkeys or birds on the ride. Only wildlife we saw on the ride were termite nests.

We recently went on this excursion in Belize! It was a really fun day! The bus ride wasn't very long and it was a scenic drive. When we got to Bacab park it was a little walk to the main facility, but an easy walk. We used the restroom and stored our backpack in a locker (free but you give a deposit that gets returned when you give back the key). We sprayed ourselves with bug spray and were assigned to horses. They don't have you wearing helmets which made me nervous at first, but the horses seemed very accustomed to their job. My horse was a good size for me (I'm 5'1") and was very chilled out. My husband (6'3") got a horse aptly named "Guinness" (his favorite beer). He loved riding him and it seemed to suit him well! The journey through the rainforest was cool. It was muddy but really fun and the horses were great in the mud, no worries there. After your ride, lunch is served. It was yummy chicken, beans and rice, fried plantains and punch. It was delicious! Then we took a dip in the cool pool and laid in the sun for a bit. I even purchased a few magnets and a cool toucan welcome sign for our patio for good prices! Everything I wanted to do all in one day! Totally a great excursion!

This was my first horse back riding experience, even though I'm from Texas, and it was AMAZING! The ride to the Eco Park is a tad rough, but it's the country of Belize, not the tours fault. They were really knowledgable of the area and jungle, and the horses were fun! The pool after the tour was resort style and beautiful. The tour guides were extremely friendly and helpful to everyone! Overall, as you can tell, me and my friends had a GREAT experience!
