Crystal Cave Tubing & Lagoon

Be prepared to be amazed by this adventure that puts you up close and personal with the unique phenomenon of crystal caves. Once you're provided with your life vest, helmet and head lamp, you'll begin your short hike, with tube in hand, to the secluded entrance of one of the intriguing caves. Your journey begins as you float into a chamber where high ceilings and a stalactite lined wall give the feeling of a cathedral. As you paddle through the cavern, you are dwarfed by boulders rising up from the river, inviting you to explore further. Crystal encrusted cave formations dazzle you with their beauty as you meander up the river. But this is just a taste of what's to come. As you disembark your tube and enter the crystal chamber to explore the sacred underworld of the Maya, your guide will reveal hidden pottery dating back to 300-900 AD used by the Maya in ancient sacrificial ceremonies. Be prepared as your hike takes you through a tiny passage and you emerge beside a spectacular coral reef like formation encrusted in sparkling shimmer. A 'frozen water fall' column and glittering rim stone dam are just a few more of the amazing formations you'll encounter in this Gothic chamber. Back in your tube, you'll make your way to an underground lagoon boarded by a mini waterfall, which signals the end of your subterranean adventure. Don't forget to visit our photo desks to buy your memories from photographers who captured spectacular shots of you on your adventure. Sip on local beer or munch on a tasty snack at the snack bar as you reflect on the expedition you just experienced. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age and at least 48 inches high.

Poorly Organized
After getting off the tender, we were escorted to a crowded hallway where we waited almost an hour for a bus. Once on the bus, we were told we had too many people and they were calling for a different bus. I believe we finally left for the excursion around 11:00 a.m. and had about an hour and a half bus ride to the site. Once we arrived at the site, we had to change buses again because our bus couldn't go over the steep hill. Our tour guide on the bus was brand new and couldn't really do anything because the microphone was broken. I would say that the tubing lasted maybe half an hour after we obtained our gear and learned about native plants/trees on the way to the cave opening. Not concerned about sanitizing equipment either. Helmets came off one head and handed off to another person. The waterfall lagoon part is misleading. I thought it would be a second excursion, but in actuality, it was part of the cave where a stalagtite and a stalagmite grew together and were "frozen". Definitely not worth the money.

Not as expected
Was really looking forward to this one but it ended up being the least enjoyed. First, don't let the description fool you. It sounds like a 2 part excursion but its not. You get in a tube where you are bunched together with a group and pulled along in the cave. You get out, look at formations, get back in. You are not freely floating at any time. Didn't see a waterfall. There was no lunch included, nor time to get any. Don't even know where you look at the pics they took. All lockers were used. There were 6 ships in port our day so it was also very crowded. Bus ride is very rickety at times and PA system had issues. Had no time left to do any shopping at port. This is a neat excursion but for we wouldn't do it again.
One thing not mentioned in description is that you need to have closed-toe shoes which are rentable at the site.

not spectacular or thrilling :-(
initially we (2 adults and 9 year old) were very excited about this tour but it turned out to be fairly ordinary, It was relaxing but we were expecting more spectacular caves and more exciting tubing, it was just a float around looking at some ok formations (not amazing or stunning), plus the helmut torches were fairly weak so it was difficult to really view anyway. There was some walking with tube but that was no issue even for our 9 year old.
We were either rushed and missed the waterfall part or it wasn't really there to see anyway.
It was different to do and as above relaxing but we were disappointed overall. We did see a lovely morpho butterfly at the cave entrance that was cool.

Cave tubing was exciting. Nothing to be scared of. You are given safety equipment. Just lay in your tube and enjoy the ride.

Disappointing and a waste of time
I went on this tour through NCL on December 21, 2011 with my daughter and two grandchildren. We started the day by leaving the ship almost 40 minutes late due to poor organization and bad scheduling. The disappointment begins with the 40-50 minute Tender ride each way and a 1 1/2 hour bus trip each way, through the poverty and squalor of Belize, down unpaved bumpy, potholed roads in a noisy, squeaky bus with a broken microphone so we could not even hear the guide's speech, through the very unscenic, inland flatlands. The cave tour itself wasn't much but our guide was at least enthusiastic and helpful. Once the cave tour ended, we were promised time (approx 1 1/2 hours) for shopping and lunch. Guess what, we were barely dressed when we were rushed aboard the bus for the long trip back to the ship, with no time for lunch and no time for souveniers, not even time for a bathroom break and at that, we were almost an hour late for the "last return tender" at 4:30pm. I think NCL should not even offer such a poorly organized and disappointing trip. From what I saw and experienced, I think NCL should by pass Belize City all together. Unless the other excursions are much better, there is nothing Belize has to offer except to ask for more American dollars.

ZipLining Fun
Our family enjoyed the zipline and crystal cave tour. Especially the zipline portion. Five different platforms and we really flew! The crystal cave tubing was fun but a little too stringent on the floating in a group. We brought three 18-21 year olds and they were hoping to be able to tube a little more freestyle but the stuff we saw in the caves were nice and the water was - how did the guide call it- refreshing!

Waste of Money
This tour was not what I was expecting, all we did was sit in a tube that was pulled by a guide. I have seen better caves in North America. The guide was very informative and pleasant, but the tour itself was very slow, We were late getting back to the ship, so we didn't have an opportunity to do any shopping in Belize. Save your money and either pick another tour or spend it shopping in Belize!

Very slow and not all that interesting unless you've never seen crystal cave formations before. The rock formations ARE beautiful in spots, but a lot of just floating along. Our tour guide was very nice, well trained and informative, but this tour was not at all what we expected. Please note; ANYONE with any problems climbing, skip this as one person put with our group had some real trouble climbing/hiking. Barely enough time to eat and no time to look at photos taken along the way that were available for purchase, at the end. Also, not much time to see anything else in port.
