City Highlights With Transfer

At first sight you'll see that Barcelona is a city with charming streets, busy with people and full of life. The old town districts are famed for their historical monuments, narrow streets and Bohemian atmosphere, and are a perfect place for a stroll. The city also has the biggest selection of modernist architecture making it a genuine open-air museum. Barcelona is the only European capital with almost three miles of beaches where you can enjoy the most modern amenities. From the pier, head to the Sagrada Familia, passing through the Barceloneta Quarter or Fisherman Area, and Calle Marina. From the outside, your guide will offer you an explanation of all the details related to the temple. Continue with a panoramic drive along Passeig de Gracia, the best-known boulevard in town. See one of the masterpieces of Gaudi's architecture: the Casa Mila, best known by Barcelonians as 'La Pedrera' and Casa Batllo. Reaching Diagonal Avenue you enter the upper Eixample Area where the Sagrada Familia Temple is. After this, continue to the Montjuic Hill, claimed by the city on the occasion of the 1929 International Exposition, when the mountain was developed and trade fair halls and sports installations were constructed as well as the parks and gardens which are to be found all over the mountain. Today it is the most important recreational area in Barcelona. Drive by the Olympic Ring and make a brief stop at the Mirador del Alcalde for a panoramic view of the city. Finally, arrive at the Gothic Quarter for a walking visit. The facade of the cathedral and octagonal dome are Neo-Gothic structures of the 19th century, designed according to a 15th-century drawing. From here, you'll be dropped off at a Norwegian Cruise Line program hotel, Mont Blanc, Catalunya Square or continue to the airport. Note: This tour is available for guests with flights after 3:00 pm, or for those guests staying at a hotel in Barcelona.

We always try to end our cruise with a short excursion as we transfer to the airport or local hotel. Touring the highlights of Barcelona is great way to end any Eastern Mediterranean cruise! But remember, this is a highlights tour with the last hour of the 4-hour tour devoted to dropping passengers off at airport terminals or hotels. After saying goodbye to our NCL ship, our guide provides a comprehensive history of the city and Catalonian culture. We climb Montjuic Hill above the city for a quick stop at Mirador del Alcalde for a panoramic view of the city and our ship docked at the port of Barcelona. Then we continued for a “drive by” photo opportunity at the Olympic Stadium and iconic communications tower, home of the Games of the XXV Olympiad held in the summer of 1992. As we drive through the city later, we can see the tremendous impact the Olympics had in helping revitalizing the city of Barcelona. The tour continues to Sagrada Familia where we stop for a walking tour of the outside of the temple. The Sagrada is one of Barcelona’s most popular attractions and most notable works Antoni Gaudí. Our guide history and features of both the nativity façade and the passion façade on opposite sides of the temple. There was ample time for some last minute souvenir shopping before continuing on to Gothic district for a walking tour of the outside of the Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia (La Seu Cathedral). In the square adjacent the cathedral, we saw the Picasso's frieze. We continued through the city and down Passeig de Gracia where we saw Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, two additional works of Gaudi. And around Las Arenas, once a bull fighting ring before the sport was banned in Barcelona, now covered to one of the central shopping malls with shops and restaurants. This was a wonderful way to end our cruise and is highly recommended.

Ok good way to transfer
Trip was ok....it was an easy way to get from the dock into the city. It gave somewhat of an over view of points of interest in the city. There was a lot of discussion between the driver and tour guide so it seemed that this wasn't a well - planned out tour...Maybe it depends on the traffic etc....They dropped us off at the hotel which was kind of chaotic.
